Wow, it was running 'balls out' (or 'balls to the wall') there for awhile! Wonder how long ago they made those toys? Probably not even legal to sell them these days.

On Amazon for little over $100

Opps, that's the D5, D9 looks to be about $160 http://www.ministeam.com/acatalog/Wilesco_Kits.html
Now when the wife asks "what do you want for Christmas?" I know the answer.

Just makes me wonder, why not scale it up a little to use coal and turn a small generator to power your house. A system like that would need a battery bank for high electric demand periods and then be able store power during low electric demand periods. The generator would only need to pump out a hair over your average electrical use to keep up.. Neat :)

For my home's electrical use I would need about 1800 watts per hour to make it work. Based on 1200 KW per month.

Though doable, the inefficiency of the system would make electricity generation an economical impossibility.

I've always wanted to do something like that. Something I could burn trash in and make electricity. ;) But I'd rather build a car running on steam. That would be great! 8-)

After I watched that vid, I stumbled upon this setup in England. About 10k x the size of that little one there, but this one is actually still hooked up to all the old driveshafts and loom machines! Great vid - love watching these things work. I'm just amazed at the engineering that went into these things. Here we are, well OVER 100 years later, and they all still work.
