Welcome!

It can, if left out in the elements for 50 years or so. In the few years it takes to use up what we have stockpiled -no problems.

I live in western Pa. About 4.5 hour drive for me to Superior breaker at Hegin. I have made the drive twice this year. First time was in April, purchased 4.5 tons of nut for my boys house. (Mark 2 Harmon) $140.00 per ton. I just went out again yesterday and got another 4.5 tons for me. (Mark 3 Harmon) $160.00 per ton. I make the trip with a Chevy duramax dooley pulling a 14 ft. gooseneck dump trailer max weight 14,500lbs. Cost about $200.00 in diesel fuel to do this and its still way cheaper than the home heating oil man. I'm fairly new to this anthracite thing only 1 season burning bagged reading although I've owned my Mark 3 for 20 years burning wood. You see all we have in Western Pa. is soft coal (Bituminous) and I did not have a clue until the internet thing and this forum. A great big thanks to all for that!! I can't be running around out there blending coals like some of the locals do, so I hope my choice to purchase Superior is a good one. The guy at the breaker said 12% ash???

I would be interested in the data also. Seeing how my son lives 5 minutes from the place. It would be a quick shoot over!

Hey coal berner. Is the Superior the stuff or should I try something else next time? Do you blend? Is there better anywhere else?

Superior does burn good, lights easy, and burns hot but it's not the only quality coal out there. Calvin Lenings, Summit, and Sherman all burn without trouble. Sherman isn't mentioned much on here but I know guys who have been burning it for years without ever getting a bad batch. Plus if your coming from 81 it's about the easiest of them all to get too. It's all of two minutes off of 81. 9% ash red and white mixed deep and strip mined coal same as everybody else except UAE and 1 secret source ;)

Well a couple of Yuengling premiums (not lager although that works in a pinch) and you might get the name of the guy off of me but not the location :shh: It's just a small operation pretty much just for his own delivery customers.

I am headed north this week some time. Traveling from wva north into pa wanting to grab about 5 ton of rice coal. Any recomondations on good (and of course cheaper coal).
I burnt blaschak mostly last year when I started burning and a ton of reading.the reading that I got did'nt seem as clean.( I am still an amatur though) The cost here is 250 -300 + for a ton of either. I am of course not like any other feller here wanting the best bang for his buck.that's why i'm gonna git it myself........
any help at all will bw most helpful and appreicated.

Calvin V. Lenig is 140.00 a ton

UAE Harmony mine is 145.00 a ton with a 2 ton limit Per week for local customers you must call first and give your name
before you go there

Superior coal is 160.00 a ton will be going to 170.00 a ton

Summit Anthracite is 170.00 a ton

Sherman coal was 160.00 a ton they to will be going to 170.00 a ton if they did not already

As for what Mike says about Sherman coal I can not say how good there coal is today But I can say when I bought it there in the past it was Hit and miss some times it was real good and other times it was Not good I live 22 miles from them The last time I bought it was the winter of 05 to 06 and many times years before I will Take Mikes word on there coal now being good because they are getting there coal from Different Places Now Then they where before and Mike knows first hand about some of the coal going there now But being I have not burned any of it I can not comment on there coal I can only say what it was like before when I burned it as for the other's above it is all good coal and I have burned tons of it Summit since 1996 and Superior since 1997 UAE since 2005 & Calvin V lenig first time 1999 then again in 2006 to 2007 and about 32 other breakers in between 1995 to The present in this house not counting the years growing up in my parents and grandparents in the late 60s 70s & 80s and a little of the early 90s When Reading Anthracite was king of the coal in this area Boy How things can change
