Hi there,
I did find someone to bring his 20-22 ton coal truck from pa to NY for about"200" a ton so far his truck has been obligated to 14 tons . We need to have it full for him to come to NY and make iy worth his while! He would be making 70 extra on the coal for each tomn minus diesel. Before diesel that would be about 1500.00 for his day minus fuel! I think thats pretty darn good for both partys!:) I am paying over 300 a ton right now! So for me I would save 100 and some on each ton! Let me know your thoughts:))

Coalstoves asked what people consider a fair price. Obviously the farther you get from coal country the economic advantages of using coal go down. When I started burning coal the price here in northeastern newyork was less than 150 a ton. hardwood was about 100 a cord green . Now five years later hardwood is about 125 green and I'm paying 240 a ton bulk which i shovel myself and it's junk Reading reading which doesnt burn half as good as bagged Blascak $ 7 a 40lb bag or Kimmels at $8 a 50lb bag. I don't know how yet but I'm going get alot of coal at least 10 tons at a better price than I'm paying now.

-OR- that will partially cover some of his insurance for the year (just remember every time you see one of those lawyer commercials about accidents with trucks its costing you money, they like suing trucking companies because your average policy is much higher than regular car insurance). Then he has to only pay for the registration, another hefty bill. Not sure what a plate is for truck like that but I was paying almost $700 yearly for 31K gross. Tax stickers, parts and maintenance... tires are about $200-300 each X16 on truck like that for the back ones. Fronts are probably in the $300-400 range X2, and then if something major breaks.... $$$$ Trucks are not cheap to run.

I'd have to agree that that is pretty fair price if your close to the NY border near 81 or other major route or even little north of it..

hi all
last summer i paid 138 per ton for 22 ton deliveried to towanda. pa.... 16 miles from waverly ny. place where US6 and US220 meet. stuff came from south tamaque coal pockets.... bought through centralia coal company. stuff burned ok. has alot more ash than the stufff coal burner has shown me. i have had 2 loads delivered so far last 2 years. have 32 ton stored. maybe something to think about.

Are you prepared to take delivery of a 20 ton pile of Coal and distribute it to members of your co-op or will the driver have to get involved in this, bear in mind it will not come separated into neat one and two ton piles . Not being negative but just trying to be sure you understand the size of what your getting and the time involved in saving the money . Heating Oil is prolly cheaper by the tanker full but not many do that either .

Hi there guys,

Thank you all for your thoughts. I did fill the the truck, actually filled it for 2x 20 ton loads. First stop for the driver is in New windsor you will see on this map that it is next to Newburgh dropping 10 tons in his shoot (10 ton shed) then in Hydepark NY about 30 minutes by car so maybe and hour from the first stop, delivering 5 tons, then to me another 10 minutes by car (longer for him I am sure) the last of the 5 tons:) to me. The other delivery acually is coming to westbrookville/cuddebackville. Half the distance from me! He said this looks like a 8 hour day for him. Thank you all again. P.S. delivering not happening until the end of March so I will def let you guys know how it worked out:)

To reiterate what coalstoves posted you're gettin a tactor trailer or tri-axle load. They can't split it, the guy can take a guess but without a scale that's all it's going to be. For that price you can assume hes going to back the truck up and dump it on the ground... that's it.

Catalina, Congrats on your purchase. I think we are to far apart to split loads anyway. your in Rhinebeck, I'm in the glens falls area. I may hire a friend who hauls blacktop and split the load with my brother. I don't really care if the load can't be split exactly, if my brother gets more good for him No knock against Pa haulersmaking their fair share but i'm burning coal to save money. 5 kids to put through college. Right now i'm paying for the cost of trucking and my dealers profit and getting substandard coal. If I was getting quality coal at the same price i would not be searching for alternative methods of delivery. When quality coal costs 325 a ton it is more than double the price of hardwood cords. Not that i want to do the wood thing again, I'm excited about my vf 3000 stoker, but if coal goes up I may just burn a little more wood in my harman duel fuel sf 150.
