I'm located in western PA. Near Pittsburgh. I own a Harmon Mark III and have burn bitimous for years. I'm looking for an anthrcite supplier nearby. Does anyone know of a contact? A man used to sell out of his house near Export PA I cannot locate him anymore.

I have heated with coal since a kid, a Blue Coal stoker in the 1950s and hand fired boilers and furnaces over the years - I have had a DS Machine furnace for 11 years. I got coal from Maxwells, Downingtown PA delivered in a lift truck (we eventually bought the truck - don't have it anymore - wish I did), then I was getting coal from Bill Wallace up in, I don't know, Carbon County or somewhere - he just disappeared, then I got a ton here and a ton there until I found Lutz in Skippack. Problem is I am in London Grove PA, near Avondale and Kennett Square PA and the trucking is killing me. I need a dealer in southern Chester County. Northbrook Coal and Oxford Coal, Grain and Hay aren't around anymore - any ideas. Hey I am retired - a young retired, but if a young guy would want to start a deliverly business and has a yard I'd be game to lend a hand.

Why bagged - if investing in a coal delivery busniness why not a front end loader, and a 3 to 5 ton scissors lift trunk and deliver bulk right to the customer's coal bin? You would need a yard and bins. I have seen nice bins at a local building supply yard for sand and stone that are large concrete blocks (most ready mix concrete plants make them with leftover concrete). It seems to me that bagged coal is the least efficent way of handling the product - you are handling it at least 4 times - bagging, loading bags on a truck, unloading bags off a truck and then dumping the bag into a coal bin. I have seen somewhere that someone still builds scissors lift bodies. I guess you would need a scale or access to one.

Locally available coal with in 20 miles of me in upper Cayuga Co. Bagged "nut" is $6./bag or $300./pallet (2400#) in the City of Oswego.Or if I want bulk I need to run down to Cato for$199./ton pick up or $225./ton delivered min.3 ton. I still have some searching to do for other possible sources.

Southern Tier coal in Addison has bulk for $180/ton, that is down below Corning so it might be too far.

I have located a southeast PA dealer that is pretty knowledgeable, that least over the phone. Actually I found 2 dealers and leads on 2 more in PA, and one in North East MD. One is in Quarryville toward Buck and one is on 340 outside Lancaster. Both the prices are in the $185 range, nut, u-pick-up. I think the one in North East was $179, but MD has tax of 5%. I did hear there is a dealer in Kirkwood PA and one in Coatesville PA but I have yet to locate either. So far anyone I have talked to, their price delivered puts coal now up with fuel oil or gas - I can take $185 if it were delivered and just dumped on my concrete pad, but hauling it ½ ton at a time isn’t good – that would be 8 trips a winter more or less. For a guy that not too many years ago was paying $30/ton and that was delivered into the coal bin, this is sticker shock. The last year, late 2005, I got a load, I think was $130 or $140, I have held out until now.

Call Al at Household Fuel in New Britan and set up a pickup, 203-224-2424. Its Jeddo deep mined, best I've had. You may want to bring a camera.
