Early bird gets the coal.

PostBy: jpete On: Sat Oct 11, 2014 8:19 pm

And that wasn't me. :D

Went to Tractor Supply in Coventry this afternoon and was told they had just sold their last 20 bags. Wonder if it was anyone here? If so, let me know how it burns because they will order more if I want but only a full ton.

They said the "test" is still ongoing. The store only got one pallet this year as well as last year. If it keeps selling, and there is demand for more, they will begin to stock it.

Taunton isn't far. Nothing is far from anything in RI. :)

Thanks for the heads up. I really wanted to try some before I committed to a ton or two.

Is it still Kimmels? They are supposed to be building a new Tractor Supply on RT1 here in Guilford this spring, should add a little excitement to the process around here.

The pallets are an even ton? Usually they run 2400#.

I think it was Kimmel's.

Can't remember. And I don't know what the weight of a pallet is.

Got my supply of nut for the winter today. Eastern Ice in Fall River, Ma. They sell bagged only for $7.50 ea. Bags are wet but that's the way I like them because there is no dust when I dump them down my chute into my coal bin! I talked to the guy and he said demand really picks up after Thanksgiving. I never wait till then.

It's Kimmels at the two TSC stores around here, just like listed on their website. Same bags and sizes as last year - rice and nut. Same packed wet in plastic bags, but not flooded like some of the Blaschak bagged.

Pretty sure the TSC Kimmel's are only 50, 40pound bags to a pallet. Not 50 pound bags like other suppliers. And, the TSC pallets look a bit smaller than the Blaschak dealer's loaded pallets.

Last year I ordered from them after Turkey-day (January I think). They were encased in ice. Initially they offered to exchange (because one expects serviceable coal not coal encased in ice) but they never followed through, leaving me to thaw bucket after bucket).

Why people are getting excited about TSC ... cost is $5.99/40 lb = $300 / ton

Am I missing something?

Or just excited about Kimmel coal?

If you buy the full ton it's $289. A small savings but a savings anyway.

Also my regular supplier is a touch over $300/ton with delivery for loose coal. Bagged coal is almost double the TSC price.
