- Hand Fed Coal Stove: Kitchen Queen
- Coal Size/Type: Nut or Stove
I wanted to share with everyone that in my opinion the Kitchen Queen is the best hand fired coal/wood stove on the market. I cook, bake, heat the entire 5000 ft house in the lake as well as heat the hot water.

I never even heard of Kitchen Queen b4,pics ,please ,sounds like that is a stove we are all looking for 5000 sq. ft. Pictures would help others to make a informed decision too.Can it be idled down for 1400 sq ft ?? Cook, bake & hot water
The Kitchen Queen is advertised as the best Amish wood cook stove on the market???? I didn't see where it can burn coal much less anthracite? How did you get it to burn coal on wood grates with no under fire air?
You wouldn't by chance be a Kitchen Queen dealer would you?

I have been looking at the Kitchen Queen myself and it looked like a nice wood cook stove. I did not know you could get coal grates that would burn anthracite in it. I thought it would just burn bituminous. If you order your stove through Obidiah's you have the option now to have glass doors on the firebox and the oven. It makes the stove look nicer, in my opinion. Here is the link to Obadiah's. The have a whole video series on the stove.windyhill4.2 wrote:I never even heard of Kitchen Queen b4,pics ,please ,sounds like that is a stove we are all looking for 5000 sq. ft. I looked over the site, and I found no mention of using coal in the Kitchen Queen at all. The only grate option I found was a 'summer grate'. The reviews listed on the site revealed no one using coal either.
Maybe I missed it?

Why do the spec's say the heating range is 2400 sq ft?Maplevermont wrote:I wanted to share with everyone that in my opinion the Kitchen Queen is the best hand fired coal/wood stove on the market. I cook, bake, heat the entire 5000 ft house in the lake as well as heat the hot water.

I've combed a few websites and none of them suggest the Kitchen Queen cookstove for use with coal. I'd be hard pressed to believe it would work well with anthracite.

If you watch all of the videos that Woody does on the KQ, he does mention that some people burn coal in them. However, he did not mention what kind of coal. With the air intake system this stove has, I find it hard to believe that it will burn anthracite. Unless they have a conversion kit that I did not see on Obadia's website.SWPaDon wrote:I looked over the site, and I found no mention of using coal in the Kitchen Queen at all. Do I'm not a dealer....I have had kitchen queens for over 20 years in north central Vermont, no issue burning coal with a top drast regulator as there is a small but adequate bottom air supply. The come standard with wood grates, need to be ordered with coal grates and shaker, and I got my stoves built with a double set of firebrick. The large stove weights about 1000 pounds and I can tell you it is made to work.

Your first post was to tell a community full of coal burning experts that collectively own an example of every coal burning appliance ever built in the last 150 years that a stove they never heard of is better than any other. No pics, no links, no explanation, just "It's the Best!". Then a web search shows the stove to be wood burner, no mention of coal. The website that sells it lists it in the wood burner section, not in their coal burning section. They say it is good for up to 2,500 SF and you claim to heat 5,000 SF, and in New England too, not down in the south where it doesn't get so cold. Then you don't understand why you were not taken seriously and get your feelings hurt.
Post some pics & explanations. Post a link to the sellers web site that talks about its amazing coal burning abilities. Explain why it is so much superior to William's base burner or whatever anyone else has.
