Yup, I'm that dumb/blind. The paper insert on the motor cover references backing the knob located on the back of the transmission 5 turns. After that, pull and a shear pin should be there somewhere. I can't find it. I've got 1/8" brass rod and suspect this pin is what's preventing the house auger from rotating.

Anyone have any pics?

Ok. Nevermind. Found the shear pin. It's brass and intact.

My next guess would be that the socket on the nose of the auger has somehow disengaged from the output shaft of the transmission. I'll see if I can get to it without destroying the cabinet.

If anyone has any tips, I'm all ears.

Loosen the motor to get some slack in the belt 1/2" wrench. Take the belt pulley set screw out. Slide the pulley to the gearbox. Now the pain it the butt, you need a 9/16" wrench I have used a combination wrench its a bitch. There are 4 nuts on studs between the hopper and the flange on the auger tube. Then it the gearbox just pulls straight back.

Hope this helps.

That's a huge help. Thanks. I haven't had much time as we both work and we have 4 kids.

I probably would have got it but you just saved me from mostly disassembling it only to discover your method after drilling out most of the rivets.

I hope its not the worm gear. That can happen if the output shaft seal goes bad allowing the oil out and coal dust/water in.

Same here. Hopefully, since I have 2 units, I have a spare though I've not messed with the other one at all.

If it is, I can either order it from the company who bought everything from will-burt (name escapes me but I'll update when I find the email) or I can get one machined from a shop my job deals with.

I am not sure about your model but I have the same brand stoker. mine has a cleanout hole with a plate over it, if the auger has slid out you can get to it there. it seems this happened to me once and I was able to use a small pry bar to engage it back into the gear box. hope this helps

T Bird, have an access panel below the firebox door. I got two Phillips sheet metal screws out but the other two have stripped heads. I got tired of fooling with them and started on the jerry rigged wiring. I'll focus my efforts on the remaining 2 screws this weekend. I had hoped that panel would give access to the end of the auger. Thanks.

i think you are at the wrong clean out. mine is directly on top of the auger tube closest to the hopper with two wing nuts

The cleanout you have of your 77B is for cleaning out coal fines in the windbox. I think I would start by taking the top plate the gearbox, an look at the gears.
