New member to the site and loving it!! I got a few questions that I could use some help out with. I have used self feeder stoves my entire life and three years ago I bought a Reading self feeder. used it and loved it but its pretty basic. the only adjustments on it was the screw on the back carpet feed to adjust the amount of coal pushed on the plate. over the summer though I bought a Alaska kast II and am very excited to get it lit. my concern is though its a little different and want to make sure im using it to its fully potential. the Alaska has a rheostat adjustment that operates the blower speed and the carpet feed speed. what is proper adjustment to operate this stove and do I need to make changes to the all thread bolt on the back of the carpet feed. also if anyone would be able to provide information to where as I can get a user manual or have any helpful hints/techniques I would greatly appreciate it. thanks guys

Ok first things first,
I think your Alaska has 2 rheostats. 1 for the convection fan and the other to control the feed. And I think it has a constant speed combustion blower to feed up through the grates correct ??
If that is your setup, all you will need to do is turn the rheostat to increase the feed which will make a bigger fire. You want to max out at about 1" of ash before it falls off the grate. You will know soon enough where to set the dial to achieve your desired temps. You should not have an adjustable cam lobe on your stove unless it is an older carpet fed unit. The newer models are paddle feed.
And adjust the convection fan again as you feel you need to do.
And if you really want to get a set it and forget it type system, get yourself a coaltrol unit for it. Yes you will have to rewire a few things but the coaltrol will take the guess work out of where to set the dials. It is especially helpful in the shoulder months where you have the stove set for overnight temps but then the sun comes out midmorning and the house gets way too hot.
As far as a manual, try contacting Alaska. They may just send you one.

thanks guys for such quick and helpful responses. im not sure what type of carpet feed I have. I was certain it was the older one with the adjustable cam load because I didn’t know they had a newer version. so tonight when I get home I’m going to look into that. what made me post anything was the person I bought it from has the rheostat set up to adjust the carpet feed and the combustion fan together..Meaning when I turn the rheostat down the carpet feed slows down as does the combustion fan and that doesn’t seem correct? But me being new to an Alaskan I wasn’t sure. That combustion fan should operate at full speed no matter what? Correct?
