The stove is here!! Truck got here about 10:30 this morning, building a fire now :D Everything looks great, I was surprised to see Oakland base heater on the door instead of herald...fine either way though not sure what the difference is.
Only problem I ran into installing the stove was the cast elbow with the check damper in it. The two halves weren't fit tightly together and then they were filled in with cement so there was no putting a piece of 6" stovepipe on it. I've left it off for now and will try and clean it up and fit it together better sometime. For now I just want to build a fire :D

Looks great, like it just grew there. Perhaps Oakland is a model name used by Herald.

Thanks guys
I think I'm in love  The fire is really getting established now, 350 on the barrel and 180 on the stovepipe.primaries are open just a sliver, secondary is closed and mpd is mostly closed. I'll wait and see what it does when the fire settles and go from there.

Beauty is only skin deep. A partially burned main carrying beam because some other guy was to lazy to dump the hot wood ashes before they piled to the joists below and sagging floors tells more of the story
Your stoves are as beautiful in their own setting, I'm envious of your collection.....but officially broke and done buying BBs

CN, check out the Out door Kitchen thread by Berlin, he claims to have built that (we haven't seen any video yet showing him doing any of the work ) :) he should be able to build you a real nice chimney/hearth combo,in fact several of them.

There are still blue ladies dancing this morning, I did not expect that. Stove ran over night with the MPD almost closed and just one primary cracked a hair. Temps this morning were 265 at the top of the barrel and 130 on the stack just off the stove. I'm burning nut coal for now.

Should I see a greater spread in temps? or will I have to wait until I need to run the stove harder? Going to be in the teens for the next few nights

check the stack temp. near the wall or ceiling where it joins the chimney.

while it's good to know the temp near the stove the pipe is releasing heat all the way out.

Measuring temp close to the wall gives me 132 while its 303 on the barrel. Getting better :D
Need to get a mano installed so I can better tell what the draft is doing. I'm guessing I'm still sucking more heat out than I need to be even with the mpd fully closed

The EFM might get jealous if the Herald gets all the attention. :)

Beautiful stove, I love the brickwork behind it.
