Yeah, didn't take much to top her off tonight

Happy April Fools Day!!

Been doing 24 hour burns all thru March.
Total this season so far is 10073 pounds. I have a little over a ton left. Glad I measured coal this year. Now I know if I'm getting fair weight from the coal guy. Not that I doubted it, just nice to see it for myself.

My last two coal/ash ratios were
12.1% on March 18th
13.6% on March 28th

My total for March was 1866
Average pounds per day 60.2

Previous months this year -

My total for Jan is 2200
Average pounds per day 70.9

My total for Feb is 2471
Average pounds per day 88.3

The sun is pounding down hard today, daylight is lengthening quite aggressively this time of year. I've also noticed the position of the sun rise is further north everyday by where it lays on my living room floor.
The new shaker nub still performing awesome. I do want to try one more thing with it. I probably should have swapped placement of the fuel bed liners too since each liner has a different sized arch at it's bottom for the respective ends of the grates. I'd like to do it before season's end so I can post results.

I was scooping coal into my bucket that I dump into my furnace. This thing landed on the tin chute attached to my coal bucket. I put him outside. He's really lucky he didn't end up in the fire. He would have, had I not seen him.

It's the biggest one I've ever seen lol.

What is that thing Lee, a sally-mander? As cold as you guys are up there, could it survive the nite? Kinda strange to find, don't ya think? Looks a little bit tropical to me.

It's been warming up in my neck of the woods. We've had some 40's and 50's.. forecast shows nothing below freezing in sight.

I did some research. It's a spotted salamander. They start coming out from their dens in the spring to mate. I think he fell into my basement thru my coal chute door that I propped open a couple inches.

He scared the hell outta me at first glance. Never seen one that big hahaha..

A few years ago, me and the family went to St. Thomas, and I was amazed at all the reptiles running loose around there. They had these iguanas everywhere, like we have squirrels. Kinda reminded me of Jurassic Park.

Last coal/ash comparison was 15.6%..

Yesterday I chose not to add any coal since it was forecasted to reach over 70 degrees today. I figured I'd let the fire go out for a couple days possibly. Made it up to 74 degrees today! Well, I checked the fire after work and saw that it was still burning so I shook it down and thru on 40 pounds. I decided to keep her burning since it will fall to 40 degrees tonight and low 30's tomorrow night.

48 hour burn..

Talk about idling! You're almost "stagnant". You are definitely a "die-hard" Lee.

Beautiful day today. Sunny and mid sixties outside. Been crawling along on about 29-34 pounds of coal per day with 24 hour tending schedule.

Next week a series of cooler days. Highs forecasted to be mid 40's and lows to be low 30's.
