hope your nipples aren't sore. (Or burned)Lightning wrote: Hey Joe, Ashley has been very content since her feeding last night. It's been about 10 degrees warmer overall outside so she hasn't burned much of it off today. She'll probably only eat about 30 pounds tonight at dinner time.

Well here we are on December 10th and I'm gearing up for warm weather burns. Mid 50's tomorrow then 3 days in a row hovering around 60 and nightly lows just over 50 degrees. Crazy. Been tending once a day since lite up in mid October and don't see that changing over the next 2 weeks.
I changed over to Kimmel's nut size tonight. I put in a full bag. Over the next 4 days I'll try running half bags again till we get past the warm spell.
Ya wanna hear the real kicker? I didn't see it for myself but, there was several reports of lawn mowers running today. I haven't mowed since mid October. Some real yard fanatics around here...

I haven't been lit since the day before Thanksgiving. We had a two week cold snap back in mid November and that's been it. It's supposed to be mid 60s here tomorrow and 70ish Saturday and Sunday. Crazy. My guess is we will pay for it in January an February...

There was a local news report here that a lady had her forsythia bush blooming. Crazy weather!Lightning wrote:Well here we are on December 10th and I'm gearing up for warm weather burns. Yep sir, those temps you see above have hovered since settling around 2:00pm this afternoon after closing the primary further at 1:00. Living room currently 73 degrees. Last tending was 22 hours ago. Prit near minimal heat output from the furnace. I haven't heard the blowers kick on for hours. Running Kimmel's nut size. It's been bouncing between 185 and 189 with subtle draft fluctuations.. Warm weather coal stunts are fun!joeq wrote:That is one "slow" draft there Lee. Is that enuff to sustain life? What's your living room temp?

Thank you Joe, I just did a shake and load. I put in 20 pounds of Kimmel's nut. Fuel bed is shrinking a little. It's at about 7 inches deep.
Thought I'd copy and paste my November activity also.

I'm still very impressed with the Kimmel's. I opened the draft diverter and the ash door to rev the fire and wham, in 5 minutes it went from idle to nuclear. Shook down and added half a bag again (20 pounds). Waiting for the fresh to start cooking now.
It wouldn't bother me a bit to run this stuff all winter!

I'm looking forward to burning some more Kimmels myself. I only burned about 200lbs before Thanksgiving. It's been to warm to burn in the HB furnace. When (or recently IF) it gets cold at night we burn bit in the potbelly or fireplace to take the chill out.
I made the modifications to the HB to pull secondary air from outside the stove verses the old setup of pulling from the ash pan area. I'm anxious to see how well it will work. I also added a hot water coil. It's not plumbed to the temper tank yet. Put that's the easy part. I'll knock that out later this week. I'll post picks and update my threads later in the week.

Got some good coal data here to share, short and sweet
Dec 2015 total is 1209 pounds
Dec 2014 total was 1630 pounds
So Dec 2015 is down 26% from Dec 2014 due to warm December. (if I did that right lol)
I sat out on my deck in shorts and t shirt on Christmas day saying, "What is wrong with this picture?!"
Latest coal vs ash percentage is 15%
This coal has 1-2% more ash than last years batch but no issues with shale, no grate jams, haven't needed to do a total clean out, still on first match.
January temps look to be below average after the 10th. I'm Gearing up for 12-18 hour burn cycles. I've been tending it at 24 hours since first lit around mid October.
The Clayton is running strong, happy to report no issues so far..
