my new coaltrol was just delivered today, looks like I have a project tonight!

Genny,, other than the contoller and thermostat indicators, what is the status of
the fire? what is the length of the ash in max vx min? how does this fire compare with what you
remember from prior winters?

i am about to install my coaltrol and am interested in seeing how this works out for you

Dutch,

I installed a CoalTrol on my sister in law's Channing about 2 years ago after her Alaska Rheostat feed control took a dive.

The beauty of the CoalTrol is the automatic function of it. Once you yourself set the min and max values, based on type coal, etc., and how far the fire is on the grate, you are done. You really won't notice the increase in feed to maintain temps as it gets colder unless you look in to see how much fire you have on the grate. And the real sweet part is if you have a cold night and then the clouds clear and the sun comes out nice and bright the next day around 10:00 AM , the CoalTrol automatically cuts back on the feed. So you don't come home to a hot house needing window stats......

Been meaning to respond. As of right now it's working fine however it's not cold out either. Tech said stove is fine, called tech about coal troal, went thru it with him and he claims it's working properly. At the end of the day I think my stove is not adequate. It worked for three years but ultimately it's too small. Heating 1400 sq ft..idk if the 350 cfm blower has the umph for the duct work

If it kept your house warm last winter it is probably adequate for nigh on any winter.

My first heating season was 08/09. Worked good for three years. The last two years has been the problem Larry. 58 degrees makes for a cold toilet seat! I have a propane heater in basement and when I'm able to run that on cold cold days it takes chill out of basement. I wasn't able to the last two years due to shortage and cost so I think I need to find another heat source and/or a larger one.
