Haha, haulin' ash, love that...

I did call. The woman acted as if she was talking to some stupid soccer mom....my biggest pet peeve. I told her about my concerns, and she just huffed and said she'll have to have the driver call me because "she doesn't understand what I'm trying to say".

I'm anxious to start burning....it's freezing in this house and when this old house gets cold, it stays cold....

You asked legitimate questions, she should have understood and known the answers. Very surprised she didn't ask what size you wanted, kinda basic info there! The pricing seems about right for $$/ton from a dealer. Is the $20 delivery per ton or per delivery?

If $20/ton you may want to get a couple ton to keep you warm now and that will get you some time to check around for better pricing if available.

Yeah, she was just not very interested in talking to me. Rough woman....maybe she just likes dealing with men better. Who knows....

She just said it's $240 a ton with a $20 delivery....maybe she did mean per ton. I'll ask the driver when he calls. He'll probably have no clue and direct me back to her! Sometimes I hate being a woman.......no respect........

I was planning on at least 3 ton....we go through about 3.5 per winter, but I'm not sure I'll be burning as much as we normally would. I also have a fireplace in the family room that I'm planning on using. My office is in there. There's nothing like working next to a fire....took me long enough to realize that. I was never "allowed" to use it before, though. I'm using it now. That will hopefully cut down on the amount of coal I'll have to burn, and then I'll use the oil as a back-up. That's my plan, at least. I understand coal is the best as far as cost/BTU...

The issue I'm having now is that I'm not sure they'll be able to use their dump truck to unload it into my basement, as the basement access is against the driveway and the driveway is only 15' wide and on an incline. It'd be great if they could shoot it directly into the bin I have down there for it, but I don't want schedule a delivery just for them to get here and not be able to get it where it needs to go. If they get here and can only dump it into a pile, I'd rather find someone with a truck and go get it myself.

Thoughts?
Yep that is about the going rate for their coal. If you can post a pic of your driveway and the area they have to shoot the coal, we can let you know if their truck can just shoot it in the bin. Their drivers are pretty good and putting it almost anywhere. And if need be, they can wheelbarrow it in.

Over in Limerick is TP Trailers. They do rent dump trailers or regular heavy duty trailers if you want to go get it yourself.

Last option is to have it dumped on a pile and get your kids to shovel it through a window..........

As far as the person you spoke to, she probably just needs more coffee. LOL She really is a nice gal. And the delivery fee is for the load, not per ton. And you just may get a female delivery driver. And yes, she can handle the truck and chute quite well. They are all family over there.

If you need any help getting it fired up, I'm in the Royersford/Schwenksville area.

Yeah, she could've just been having a bad day. Maybe she just prefers dealing with men....I can't say I blame her. Good to know it's a family-run business...says a lot.

Ooo, my kids are gonna LOVE me. Nothin' like good ol' fashioned manual labor. I'm so on it....

Here's a picture of my driveway.

This is right inside the basement door and the amount of space between the door and the coal bin (on far left)

So where is the coal bin ??

If it is right inside that door, it will be no problem for them.

The coal "bin" is actually a sectioned off space in the basement....the wall you see on the far left is the wall of the "bin", so yes, it's right inside the basement door.

That should work to use a coal chute into the basement,it is hard to tell from the pics as to how much can be chuted into that bin. The bin is a vertical box a few feet from the access door ??

Well......... it looks like a chute would work to fill 1/2 ?? full , Rick might know what they carry as far as an auger. What are the dimensions of that bin ??

It's roughly 5 x 15-18?

5' wide x 15' long & we will just assume a fill depth of 4' high = 300 cu ft divide by 40# per cube for coal = 7.5 ton ,if your measurements are right & if I calculated right ,you shouldn't have any problem getting a 4-5 ton load into your bin with a coal chute. Disclaimer : I was not there to see it in person so I could easily be wrong. :)
