Grand-kids are special, you're doing the right thing, Tis better to be safe, than sorry. Hey, it's portable and looks good.
The TV- maybe you can get a swivel arm, wall-mount, like in the sports bars, that would move it away from the finial.

Little cutie fire place tongs holder 40 pounds weight and I paid $40. I have a matching salt and pepper shaker too. Is that a little excessive?

Need to throttle it down a bit more. The 4 bolts in the air holes under the door to further reduce secondary air seems to be working. WOW, I think I will open a window for now.... Oh look, my "responsible" neighbor has finished felling trees with his 090 Stihl and has lit his wood fire.. Gasp, choke ....
