Hi all. I have an Alaska Channing III and the Rheostat does not change the speed of the Pusher Plate, so turning the Rheostat down simply slows the fan down. I am working on changing this (Smarthome Thermostat) thread.
What do you guys use to control the motor speed as far as type of rheostat/rating? Also, I bought this used when it was 4 years old and I don't know if this is supposed to be controlled by the dial or not? Is this factory, or did they only control the Combustion/convection fans only via Rheostat?

Thanks!

switch the combustion fan to run 100%, you get a much better burn and put the stoker on the rheostat to control the feed rate.

THanks for the reply bud. I am going to put the combustion fan on 100 percent for sure, thanks. Since the motor is an AC motor if you reduce voltage to lower speed, then you will lose torque, and I do not want it to be on a low speed and stall while not home and overheat. So, I was worried about that and if the gear reduction is so great that even at low speed it has enough snot to overcome a tough push. I have put decent resistance on it while running and she has lots of torque so I just wanted see what you guys say about this and if anyone has any input on hardware to buy! Thank You!

*Bump*
I am going to buy the rheostat in the Smart Thermostat thread and experiment I guess... Any input on what you guys are using to control coal feed would be great, and also, I bought this used so I was wondering,.. was it designed to run through rheostat?
If not, than I will have to get a drive or something to control frequency, or a different motor that can handle it, whichever is cheaper.

The gearbox on the pushers have a lot of torque, they are geared down to very low RPM, I don't think it would stall on a hard push even at a lower setting on the rheostat, many of the older stoves just ran rheostats for speed control.

Yup, thanks, I twerked it down to very slow and grabbed it and still couldn't stall it with the new Rheostats I bought for the project, I think they will be just fine!

Here's the thread: Smarthome Thermostat?

Thanks for the input :D
