Bags,bulk,?size-- nut? Some local places,i cannot vouch for them as to quality or dependability........ Countryside Coal... they are well liked with their fuel oil delivery as well as the propain, I can only assume they might run their coal division the same ? Jono Hardware seems to do pretty good amount of coal, both of these use Blashack coal, I think Jono does their own bagging,we bought 1 ton of bagged nut from them,we are not happy with the excessive amount of fines & small sizes mixed in,coincidence ? it is our first ton of bagged nut.Fittery &Habecker ...supposed to have good quality coal,i do not know much about prices from any of these three places.

ErichL,I found some prices I had written down about 1.5 months back. Jono ... 3 ton delivered/ton = $235/ton , Countryside was 3 ton delivered/ton = $220/ton,better call them to get current pricing, but those prices do reflect the savings with Countryside.Update us with your findings & purchase place & price.

Country side is 220 a ton. Snyder's a local family is 220 a to. Plus 24 for delivery. That is the best I found so far. I will post when I find more.

Any thoughts on White ash vs blaschac? The types are new to me. My father always burned red ash.

ErichL,

Sorry, kinda late to the party--you probably already have your coal, if so, maybe this'll help for next year.

I live in Mechanicsburg but last few years I've been getting my coal from Kuntz and Sons Coal in Hummelstown. They're located on RT 39 north of Hersheypark Drive, maybe a mile or so north of the Reserve at Hershey Meadows. I just paid $270 a ton for bulk Lehigh nut delivered. I've gotten bulk Blaschak there the last two years, but Ed Kuntz told me he couldn't get them to deliver a load in November. So he got a truckload of Lehigh nut and I bought two tons of that. I was just about to put a review on here. It's good coal, seems to be less ash that Blaschak, produces a darker ash, maybe reddish, but doesn't seem to hold a steady temp in my DS 1500 like the Blaschak did. Nonetheless, it burned plenty hot during our real cold spell last week.

You might also try W. D. Espenshade down near Elizabethtown. I got a load of bulk Blaschak nut from them a few years back--they also had it bagged at the time. They charged me something like $20 a ton delivery, but that is a long haul for them.

At both of these places, the people are decent to work with and are flexible with delivery. They have to back into my side yard and chute in through the basement window above my bin, and depending on rain/snow, I've had to postpone deliveries a few times over the years. I also ask to be the last/only load on the truck since they're driving on my yard, and both places were ok with that.

Markv. Thanks for the info. I went with Countryside coal and BlaschakNya's 220 a ton for 3 tons. No extra delivery fee. Nice to deal with and a very smooth delivery operation.

Mark,
Just wondering, since you are in Mechanicsburg, why you don't use Wertzville Coal Yard in Mechanicsburg? I have always gotten good quality from them, with a choice of red or white ash. Also, A.H Reiff off of Wertzville Rd sells one ton white ash for $220 a ton picked up. They also deliver but I never used that option.

Good question there Joe, I was wondering the same thing as I was reading this post. Yesterday I took a ride up to Wertz for the first time, seemed like a great place with lots of different types of coal. Wertz is an hour and 20 minute ride for me, one way. Wertz is $10 a ton more than my local supplier but I can only get Stove, Nut, Pea or Rice from them, no Buck or Barley.
