How would you plumb two tanks in series with a thermo siphon set up? And if one of the two tanks was powered to make up for insufficient heating by the coil, how would you prevent the powered tank from doing all the work during recovery?

A true parallel set up would heat both tanks equally at the same time.

You can use the drain at the bottom of the tank to connect to the low side of the coil. Then use the blow off port along the side of the tank that is up higher to connect to the high side of the coil.
The anode is a sacrificial rod that protects the interior of the tank.It is installed from the top and is almost as long as the tank is tall.

Ok. I thought he meant the heating element. I didn't have my vocabulary straight lol. The vertical pipe inside the tank needs be to left in.

Sorry if I confused you, did not mean to ever say you can do thermosphion w/ tanks in series...only to say you can do it in parallel.

If 2 tanks in parallel and you still need to have the electric switched on, then maybe a 3rd tank is required. ;)

McGiever I am using a pump. Do not have the ceiling height to put the tank up to the correct level.

My hope is not to have to use electric at all.. with 160 gallons of mostly hot water. We will see I guess.
