Anyone use coal from Casey Kassa? I live in Alden, literly less than 1/4 mile from them. But I have had a few people tell me its rocky and no good. Was told Chervys is the best around.

I used to burn a lot of nut coal from Casey-Kassa in my hand fired stove.. It usually burned pretty good, but every once in a while I'd get a load that didn't do as well. It still burned, but my wife couldn't seem to keep it burning. I was able to keep it going fine if I was here to take care of it.

I've been burning it for the past 4 years without any real problems. I am kind of forced to use them, however. They're the only ones who are willing to deliver only one ton at a time, which is all I can fit in the coal bin under the porch. I have heard stories about Casey having lesser quality coal, but I think everyone around here gets it from the same mine in Hazleton. I could be wrong though.
I just did a quick 560lb pickup with the truck of rice from Casey. cost me $48.80 . I have a 1,000 sq ft house with not a lick of insulation anywhere and in this cold weather I have been burning it for the past 7 days for heat and hot water. I still have almost half left. It's doing just fine so far. $200 a ton, I think.

Casey coal is very hit or miss. I live in the area also. Chervy in Plymouth gets his from hazelton. He is also 200 a ton and coal is good. I burn from Phillips fuel in Plymouth his is reading anther cite. It is 208 a ton. No issues with it. And I know other people no one I know ever got bad coal from him.

where are you getting your coal now? and what is the current pricing?
Pickup at Jeddo Coal on Rt 940 is $160.00 a ton. I burned Casey Kassa coal for years and although dirty with more fines, has some rock (bone it's called), always burned. I use Jeddo now since I'm closer, and see n o difference in consumption or heat.

I have been buying bagged Blanchak coal in Mt. Top. Just went yesterday and got 300 pds from Chervy's. It looks good but some pieces are alittle bigger than the bagged. Guy told me it was the rice. Gonna see how it burns. Sais he gets it from Hazleton.

now its just ok still burning good but the ash to coal ratio is not good no clumping just not great coal,
agel coal is now doing reading coal stopped using Hudson coal, or can we say Hudson gravel....lol lost a pot due to Hudson coal the clumping and could not even keep the fire burning with it
the reading is really impressive ash to coal ratio is great no clumping, will try the reading next year also
FYI I burn buck in both stokers

I stopped burning Agel (rice coal) about 2-3 years ago. I think Agel knew they had quality issue because it seemed sometime I would get more coal than I paid for. So I switch to Chervy but I am paying about $20 more a ton (I get 8 ton at a time) and they are more than twice the distance. I have my coal delivered so the distance factors into the price. Chervy's coal is good but a little dirty. Should I stick with Chervy or give Agel another chance or try someone else?RAYJAY wrote:i have been burning it for the last 10 years, and its been the best, joshsdaddy wrote:Anyone use coal from Casey Kassa? really good coal to ash ratio, example is 4- 5 gallon pails of buck to one pan of ash in the Harmon

I've been taking care of my neighbors house while she was away and that included getting the mail. Presently her oil supplier is Santarelli Oil and on a card they sent her it says they have merged with Agel Coal. Maybe this is why the switch to Reading.

In case anybody is interested.

Been burning Susquehanna in Pitston this year it rocks good heat: minimal ash some fines but other wise really good coal, Susquehanna took over Hudson this year, burned Hudson last year and had issues with keeping it lit was extremely wet. Not good for Harman Mag stoker. But since new owners it's been great. Give them a try you will enjoy the giant loader putting coal in your truck.
