I have a pot bellied stove which I burn. Iknow about that dome that builds up when you've burnt coal for a while and the dreaded cold spots. I'm poking down the coal bed now in places, then adding coal and then shaking it down until I have several orange coal lumps fall into the ashpan. then I stop.
