I have a Toshiba laptop. Some of the keys have stopped working.

Has anyone had a laptop keyboard fixed ? Can it even be fixed? Or is it more expensive then buying a new, good laptop. I'm not interested in replacing it with one of the cheap ones. We have two desktops, but if it's not an expensive repair, it would be handy to have the laptop working again.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Price depends on model. Some keyboards are $13, some are $50.

Search youtube for your model, watch the video and decide if you want to tackle it. Bear in mind those plastic trim pieces can scratch or break.

I replace them frequently.

Thank you all !!!!!

Found the You Tube vid - one screw from the battery compartment, then pop off trim piece in front to get at four screws for the top edge of the key board. Looks easy enough.

Found a new keyboard on Amazon - $19.00 with shipping.

Thanks again.

At my shop YouTube is cheating! We like the challenge of the unknown, but like they say at "The HomeDepot" we are trained professionals.  The shop is we work in, is rated by Lenovo as 42 of 550 nationwide business partners.

Thanks DM.

A few reasons those routes won't work for us.

Got this to travel with and a fitted case for it to go in. No room for a second keyboard, so two keyboards kinda complicates the portable part. Especially since I only have one lap. :D

With the best of sales, I don't think I'm going to be able to get a comparable laptop for $19.00.

Plus, this laptop has windows 7. Our new Lenovo desk top has Windows 8. We prefer using 7.

Then you are stuck with buying a new keyboard and doing the replacement. Depending on the notebook, it ranges from easy to moderate effort. Always look for a youtube video...I've changed 4 notebook keyboards.

Windows 8 is great !

Paul,
I have not repaired a laptop in 15 yrs.-'gotta love retirement'. $19 is a good price for the KB. Just don't add in the $38 for the fifth of your favorite scotch!
May I suggest having a 8"x 10" piece of styrofoam on the workbench to stick the screws into as you remove them. These laptop screws were not all the same length, and there were to many to remember where they went. If it works again, good for you. If it doesn't, you have the scotch, Irish funeral!
Cheers
