Ok, while on Amazon I ran across the "AW Perkins 210 Toss-In Big Stick Soot Stick". Supposed to help get rid of soot build up in the chimney. Just thought I'd see if anyone has ever given them a try and if it helped lessen the frequency of needing to clean the chimney or not. More curious than anything. Would be nice to not have to clean the chimney when it's blistery cold out.

Soot will burn but I don't think fly ash will. Any soot destroyers I have been familiar with have to be sprayed on the soot. Once burning and hot enough it will keep going even where not sprayed. Can lead to some exciting chimney fires.

I'm assuming Bit Coal correct? Because I've been burning Anthracite for 7yrs and my chimney is as clean as whistle.

Yeah he's burning bit I believe. I don't know if those work on soft coal soot. They may only work for creosote.

if you want to clean soot out of your chimney, wait until a rainy day and burn it HOT (ashpit open, untill the soot in the connecting pipe starts to glow, then shut it all the way down) and your stack and connecting pipe will be pretty clean. As long as you haven't been burning wood, this method is ok, if you've been burning wood, you may give yourself a chimney fire.
