Hand Fed Coal Stove: Victory 700
Coal Size/Type: Pea

I've had my Victory 700 for 30 years, like the stove, replaced a few parts over the years. I received my coal delivery this weekend, coal supplier mistakenly delivered 3 ton of buck instead of pea. I fired the stove up tonight, I think the buck will work, but I don't think I will get as much BTU. Also, during damp weather, I think the stove may struggle more, tendency to go out. Has anyone ever burned buck in a Victory 700?

Union Manufacturing Co. (PO Box 522, Boyertown, PA 19512), 215/367-5360 was the last info I saw on the manufacturer .. have no idea if contact info is still any good (about 4 yrs old info).

But looking at the design of it, its hard to say if buck would perform well. I'm guessing not...but not sure.

You can burn it if it doesn't fall through the grate. It will burn slower than pea because it's smaller and more dense as a coal bed making it a bit harder for natural draft to get through it. Give it a try and if it don't work, sell it and buy pea. Or you can buy some pea and mix it together kinda of like making a small range coal. Range coal is a mix of pea and nut. Let us know how it works.

Stove was burning fine for about 6 hours, then it looked like it going out.
Ok with the grates, but not enough air.
Bottom door wide open, with a fan forcing the draft.
Definitely not producing the amount of BTU, I'd say about 1/2 to 3/4.
Coal supplier is standing good for his mistake.
He will unload the bin, haul up the steps, and deliver correct pea coal.

Now you know buck won't work. The bed is too dense for the air to naturally draft through on that stove.

You have a good supplier of coal there. Would you like to publish the name so others can know who the individual is that stands behind his work and makes it good if he makes a mistake?

Not too many of those guys around anymore.

In 2 hours, 3 boys unloaded the bin, bagged, and hustled the 3 ton coal up the steps, piled, waiting for pickup.
So until the yard refreezes, doing the bucket method, 8 per week.
