MA,i agree totally, heat distribution is a major part of the issue. We first have to establish what the fuel of choice is going to be b4 we can establish which way to set the stoves controls. HB1357,I hear what your saying although we have to remember that what some of us think are simple mods might just be way too much for others too comprehend & accomplish. Lightning, you are right about the learning curve with any stove. But , take the surdiac as an example, that is 1 stove that I would not want to deal with at all & I feel very sorry for those who have to heat with a unit like that. Some curves in the road can be fun but if a road is nothing but curves it becomes very tiring .

Thanks everyone for all the help & suggestions however I have decided to get rid of the piece of sh** as I just don't have the time to have anything modded nor the patience to mess with it anymore plus I feel that I have already sunk enough money, time & patience into it. To me it was like beating a dead horse. I was debating on whether or not to push the friggen thing off a cliff however I sold it this morning to a guy down the road who wants to use it as a wood burner in his shop which I just got done hooking up the oil furnace so the nightmare is finally over.

No doubt, In my opinion it is certainly one of the biggest pieces of sh** that I have ever messed with and would not ever buy one never again and I completely agree about feeling sorry for anyone who gets one. The piece of junk should have been recalled or better yet, Never made. I sold it this morning so the nightmare is over for me. Hurray!

Well, whatever... There are plenty that will beg to differ.. I can't believe that 3 people that "knew what they were doing" decided you did an adequate job on that installation. You'll wanna rearrange that cold air return for the next coal furnace and have a little more open mindedness and patience or yer in for another disappointment. Good luck..

Anyone that wants to beg to differ so be it and good luck to them if they buy this particular coal furnace as they will need all of the luck that they could ever possibly need, I will stick with calling it a piece of sh** because it is what it is. As I had already stated on page 1, The cold air return was only temporary and yes those 3 people know what they are talking about as they had mentioned to me about changing the cold air duct sometime however the cold air return was most definitely not the cause for the furnace working like a piece of junk. Anyway as I had already said, It has been sold and I have nothing good to say about US stove. I do know how to operate a "good working coal furnce by the way" which the 1557m US stove is certainly not on my good working list.Lightning wrote:Well, whatever... I checked out your installation tutorial and I like it and the furnace plus it appears to have a nice large style blower on it as compared to the 2 little farts that the 1557m has which I think a hair dryer puts out about the same amount of air. Thank you very much for showing me as I just may get one being that the place below has the 300 and the 400 models available and they are only about a 25 minute drive away from me!michaelanthony wrote:....moving forward I do want to mention a very nice hand fired furnace, I believe the name is DS Machine - Kozy King. You're welcome. There are so many options out there and it's a bonus you are relatively close to an excellent product. Just don't mind the passionate folks here, we're so happy to be warm and saving money that we buy computers trying to convince people to heat with coal to save money to buy comp....well you know where this is going ..................nice ride by the way I was a 69 hard top convertable fan in a previous life.

No doubt there are way too many different types of wood/coal furnaces out there and if you don't have the right knowledge about them you may end up with something that was a 400/500lb anchor as I had. I am going to go check out those kozy kong furnaces tomorrow. Thanks, The 68 needs a good bit of work to finish her up but she's definitely a runner.michaelanthony wrote:You're welcome. Yeah, that's unfortunate..
The $5.00 worth of coal you woulda used today will cost $17.98 plus tax in oil..

Yep and a real bummer as well plus not to mention a crap load of work installing/uninstalling everything over & over, I think it's time to move to a hot state where no furnace is needed!Lightning wrote:internetjunkie4life wrote:I have the oil furnace back in temporarily and I can hear/feel the dollars burning away!
