This beautiful base burner is in the Garage? I hope you spend lots of time out there or this might be grounds for a little talk.

I was thinking the same thing William. "The Base Burner Liberation Army" aka BBLA may have to take action if said stove stays in said garage.............

hotblast1357: Your stove is lovely. Photos are nicely detailed.

Did you reline the fire pot? If not, will you in the future?

What type of seal did you use on the joints when you put it back together?

Lmao I know it was steal! Buck thanks, I did not take the stove fully apart because the base chamber and the top under the "hat" have cracks and I did not want to take the chance of breaking the stove more and not being able to put it back together, so I sealed the cracks and wherever else I could get too that was leaking, I used a Rutland caulking type material that is high temp and black, it works great! Do too my impatience I did not reline the pot yet lol it is in great condition as far as I can tell, I will reline it this summer with some furnace cement I have, I caulked the top doors around all new mica, I have too install new mica in the bottom doors come spring time, there are some minor leaks on the bottom doors but no big deal.

The temporary magazine seems to be working good so far, who knows how long the stove pipe will last though, I'm thinking of maybe using a well casing or something of that grade.. If I could make a bell shake at the bottom it would be even better I think, will have to make a new thread when the time comes

Not sure how much belling the bottom would do.

I was surprised how little the bottoms bell out on many that I've seen pictures posted here, or on line. The Glenwood mags in the recent project, recast using an original, only flare 3/8 inch in radius of the last two inches of length at the bottom. Not much when you consider those stoves are made to burn nut, or stove coal size.

Hmm interesting, I have the magazine at a length of 10 inches, 6" diameter, holds 10-11 lbs of nut, its small but so is the stove, only a 13 inch pot, does anyone have any experience in making there own magazine or a thread where someone did?

hotblast1357:

How many pounds of coal will it take to fully load this stove including magazine? I'm also interested in your observations as to burn times and idle controllability.

Have you selected a foundry to do the recast work? Will you be doing any mods to the stove?

Just reread this post  I have more questions than a two year old. Truth is, I find this style and size stove fascinating. Fun to be an observer as one is being brought back to life.

I'll measure mine in the morning and post a photo. It's a two piece cast --- I plan on sending it in to be duplicated along with the grates and some other parts. Could always make an extra if it would fit your stove.

Buck I don't know yet if I will get too many parts re casted, I have to do some research about my local area to find if there's people around that could help, idk if I could get my broken/cracked pieces recasted? I haven't done any research on recasting yet, I have thought about making my own magazine out of well casing or some rugged pipe, I am interested in your magazine size though, please let me know the length, inner and outer diameter of top, and how it rest in its place, mine sits on a beveled edge
