The idea of 120 pound of nut coal firing off at one time is a terrifying thought. I don't even want to go there in my mind.

Remember years ago when I was in my early 20's and had a soft coal stove run away from me, when I turned the MPD closed in an attempt to close off the draft - the pipe when instantly red hot in color. It was so damn hot it was impossible to get close to it.

That was many years ago, and my eyes still get wide when I think f it.

Locke ID, lift up loading lid. it's cast right in the under side.

now that I have a stove here I can start working on actual space considerations for modifications and come to terms with what is or isn't possible.

Just looked and can not find a date: what it says is Model #120 ALS 112A Locke Stove Comp Kansas City. Mine also has Warm Morning cast in the load door on the outside

This will be the fun part - I'm excited to see the design modifications you incorporate in this stove. BTW: are you considering a heat shield like the one I've placed on mine? It works very well and has allowed 16 inch placement out from the wall (the wall Temp is around 120 F when burning the stove hard)

look here,
just above the patent #

i am considering a heat shield similar to yours, though it may turn out more along the line of a double heater channel.

i have ALOT of modeling to do.

I am watching this thread with great anticipation also. The Locke 120 the Stove and Heat Ministry had donated is going into a "new" church this next week. We are putting it in the basement and hope that this can heat the church to an acceptable level and cut the fuel oil usage drastically. The Stove and Heat Ministry stove looks exactly like the one you have except it has the firebrick and the outside is crimped, not riveted.

Photos of underside load door with no Manufacture date:
Would be nice to have it dated ... Have never seen any records of production history on these stoves. That would be fun to see how they evolved through the years.

Rev. Larry, going to pick up a second stove tomorrow that's not that great but has a full set of usable bricks in it.

John, the parts stove with the bricks has a date on it too. i'll post a pic later.

hmm, interesting. maybe that is an early lid, no specific patent #, no date and different lay out of print.

Went out this morning and removed the part I needed to make a pattern the Rev needs for his Locke120 church stove.

Check this out, photos of the loading door on the Locke 120 I had set aside for you. It is exactly like the one you just purchased. This one here was built in 1942 and has a crimped barrel in almost mint condition - only one small rust through spot.

I'm thinking the ones with the enamel base (like the stove I have in use) are possibly an earlier model. :?:

wow, that's now a 3rd lettering layout. I wouldn't have thought they would have taken that much trouble thru the yrs.

the enamel pieces are very nice. i'm considering power coat for mine.

Power coat would be very nice. I had thought of going low tec and using the Hammered finish spray paint from Rust-Oleum®

Have used it on several projects and like the way it looks, easy for me to use and cheap. Thinking the brown with black barrel and black trim pieces.

Our primary business is the installation, relocation, and modification of powder coating equipment.

Unfortunately there really isn't a powder on the market today that can compare with the durability of high temp stove paint or stove polish.

It works well on the trim pieces but will usually discolor on the barrel in one season.

the stove I wanted to get for the bricks got yanked out from under me. the owners daughter listed it again and sold it before the parents knew it. :(

"life is like a box of chocolates "

i've been burning up a guys voice phone for a month about a stove 48 miles from me.

today I decided to text him and make an offer 1/3 of his asking price and giving the reasoning based on his ad and pics.

5 mins. later he calls me back by voice phone and says I obviously know more about the stove, it's condition and value than he does and proceeds to give me an address and time to meet him tomorrow afternoon.

gotta love " favor, with God and men"

steve
