I've burned 200 of my 300 bags I put in the basement this summer. Been burning since 31 Oct, with a continuous burn but for 3 days in late November when my bride made me go out of town for our 31st anniversary!!

3.75 tons of rice burned, since Nov. 3. Just picked up another 1300 lbs in my pickup this weekend, to hopefully make it through March.

I have gone through my 4 tons delivered on November 1st. Im down to the 3/4 ton I had before my 4 ton delivery. Gettin 2 ton delivered Thursday so I hope that will get me to warmer weather. Still impressed over oil. Im pleased with my first winter using coal!
2/23/2015-Just got back from HEP's in Cortland with another 25 bags of Blaschak rice. Have 8 left out of the 15 on 2/19/2015. Praying that it warms up. I've had enough of this crap.urdahere wrote:1830 insulated 2 story farm house that sits out in the open and catches all the wind. New thermal pane windows.
ll Pocono started up October 20, 2014 and as of Feb. 19, 2015 my average has been 60# Blaschak Rice per day keeping the house at a steady 72.
15 bags remain, so if this freezing weather keeps up, I'll need another ton or so.
This has been a rough winter. Lots of below 0 nights and days. Even a few -22 nights.

Way more than you guys.
In my Tarm 504 boiler I've been through 5.5 tons of my 6 ton delivery and just received 3 ton delivery Saturday.
2800 square feet in NY. Long cold winter so far.

Wow. This is my first year burning coal. I've used 6000# (Three tons!) of rice coal so far in my 2450 ft^2 home which was built in in1974 and is not fantastically insulated.
I live 40 miles south of Philadelphia, and this has been a pretty cold winter.
Even so, this seems like an awful lot compared to other posters here.
At one point the FD had to come out because coal dust blocked the vent and all our CO detectors in the house went off and they adjusted the position of the damper.
The installers have been out a few times to check on the stove, but should I have someone else examine it to see if it should be adjusted?
Any help appreciated.

I live in the same general area as you and have burned close to 4 ton so far heating a few more sqft so I don't think your 3 ton usage is out of line.
I would suggest for every ton of coal you burn you need to clean the flue pipe and power vent if that is what you are using instead of a chimney.
Good job having the CO monitors. I would suggest getting a manometer so you can watch your draft and see potential fly ash issues before the CO backs up into the house.

That ain't so bad, I have 2400 sq ft and a 74 house I used around 4, maybe you should start a thread asking questions about your stove but if you do be detailed about your setup, you'll learn alot just by searching your stove here and learn to do your own maintenanceloborob wrote:Wow. 4840 since October 19th. Heating 1700 sq ft 68 to 73 and another 500 sq ft in the mid 60's, not counting garage most evenings.
2012/2103 this time 4900
2013/2014 this time 4600
I am heating the garage more now, but made some adjustments with combustion air this year, maybe it made a difference
