And I for one hope you will maintain a presence here on NEPA. More the merrier I say. This is the site for coal burning no question about it. If you had been around here for a while you would see the "resurgence" there has been in coal for home heating. So please consider making NEPA a regular stop on your web surfing adventures.StoveTech1 wrote:The comments made by members is important to us. It's not just DM3, other people have mentioned areas where Preston could improve. By the same token he (the owner) has treated others well. I suppose its a YMMV sorta thing.freetown fred wrote:I think everyone needs to pay attention to what we post--the OP in my opinion has a history of posting some pretty bizarre stuff--based on HIS facts which I question quite often. Just sayin.
Stovetech1, Im glad you have a "world class" team assembled. Like I said you can take this on board, or not. It's the magic of our free nation.warminmn wrote:Wish I'd had an owner/employer that stuck up for me like this, right or wrong. And I hope they deserved it. In 2012 did I think you were a shop for,by,and of the woodburners, yes. Did I leave your shop with a stove, no. Have I been back for sundries and doodads, yes (not that I'd expect you to know I had ). I do hope you stick around on here.

Point being--in suggesting improvements would be far from inclusive of calling anyone--"idiots" again, just sayin.

Well Fred, having reviewed the thread and specifically my posts I never referred to anyone as an "idiot." If I implied that someone was an "idiot" it was unintentional. I did state that I felt someone at PTP was full of horse apples. And if that's too rough and tumble well....
I might have called them "woodburning snobs" but the gag about "no coal in eastern CT" kinda lit my fire. It was a bit egregious seeing how coal is sold 3 miles away on the same road. And the fact that the owner states he's been selling coal for decades with minimal interruption.
The ball was dropped, and rather badly.

Suppose instead of labeling a person idiot, how about calling the statement made by the person idiotic? With almost the same intent and words the emphasis shifts from the personal to the statement.windyhill4.2 wrote:Personal comments like calling another member an idiot for starting this thread will get that " personal attack" removed, yet we are allowed to start a thread calling some business idiots ????????????????????????????????????? dmb3 is an idiot.
Words are strange things and sometimes there is no word for something and there are words that seemingly have no opposite. Sometimes we have to borrow a word from a foreign language to achieve clarity when even a multi word translation fails to translate. The Bible is chock full of these things which is why the early church opposed a lay person reading the Bible in their native tongue.
I have three different translations of the "Tao Te Ching" and meanings shift quite a lot and sometimes become meaningless.
Words change meaning over time. When Richard lll used the word sad he meant serious and not sad as we think of it.
A modern word that has changed in my lifetime is the word "cool" which has taken on new applications and meaning not present in my younger days. The opposite of cool is warm, but if we say a someone is a cool person , that person could also be warm. Used as a personality trait the meaning changes and opposites are contained in the same entity.

Businesses are not natural persons ... and hey, the business would not even know about this issue. Sounds like the business actually is pro-coal ... hopefully he can get his employees up to speed on current technology and whatsnot.windyhill4.2 wrote:Personal comments like calling another member an idiot for starting this thread will get that " personal attack" removed, yet we are allowed to start a thread calling some business idiots ????????????????????????????????????? dmb3 is an idiot.
Being an idiot is a correctable problem (lucky for windy LOL).

Nobody suggested you called anyone an idiot--possibly you could re-read the thread being you've been so vocal:(

I did Fred. In this post from ST1 where I was quoted and received this in returnfreetown fred wrote:Nobody suggested you called anyone an idiot--possibly you could re-read the thread being you've been so vocal:(
This statement would imply that I had in fact referred to the staff of PTP as "idiots". Hence my follow on post where I made the distinction.Calling a store/staff with an enviable reputation in the industry idiots based on a difference of opinion about the coal marketplace is just plain wrong.
As for how vocal I've been regarding this. I refuse to allow groundless statements of "there's no coal in eastern CT" to go by without a peep, it's not correct. What if someone like me, completely new to stoves and having to burn things to stay warm in these damnable yankee winters wanted to get a coal stove. Bad info like that will lead to a uninformed decision, and potentially an expensive error.
I don't care about him selling coal stoves or not. It's his business, both figuratively and literally.

Let's get back to the Preston thing here, enough idiot talk. This forum's purpose is to exchange ideas, not insults.

This is the most litigious state in the union. I'm surprised I haven't heard from a lawyer yet with all the angry nutmeggers....

Implications & actual statements do differ, ya think?
