The original design came from down below, I am convinced of this. I'm trying to put together an "Axeman Undercover" team to find out about this guy Anderson, he may in fact be the Devil himself. The fires of Hell run on anthracite, where else could you get a design that is unworkable to produce the kind of output that thing does? :)

1948 They could be building the boiler that I just sold .I almost feel I should have kept that one just for the bragging rights to the oldest one . Cool !!!

I was burn in Shamokin, PA. I can remember when I was a kid seeing signs posted...We Burn Coal...
When oil became readily available and cheap, businesses were changing over to oil.
This wasn't a problem outside the coal region, but within, it meant jobs. The people would boycott
those that changed to oil, so up went the signs...We Burn Coal...

Oil was cutting into the sales of coal ( jobs ). So to help out the coal industry Penn State designed the anthratube
boiler. The first one was built by Bethlehem Steel. But Axeman-Anderson tries to take all the credit.
The book doesn't say how A.A. got the rights to build the anthratube. The patent on the tube was 1+years
after the start of production but the boiler always had the tube. anthratube...coal tube...

Yes, the BOILER was an J.E. Axeman design....then probably slightly re-designed for coal use.
