I keep seeing posts about fines and issues related to them.
When it was time to trim the SS auger tube for my 520 I called my buddy Dave to ask how many fluts need to be exposed out of the tube.

He recommended 1.5 , so that's what it got. Just a thought, but it may help some. I get very little amount of fines, maybe too much auger is munching coal while it spins in the bin.

Dave, too much auger in the coal will definitely cause grinding and produce fines. Been there, done that. I had to replace my bin pipe once and tried to make use of a piece of pipe that I already had, but it was shorter than the original and left 4 flights of auger exposed. That worked fine with rice, but with buck it caused some serious grinding. Since then I've gone with EFM's recommendation of 2.5 flights and it works well.
