Hey Guys , I have this idea of building a stone surround around my coal stove, well when I get my new one currently have 30-95 looking at a new 50-93. I have done a lot of reading about Mass Heaters. I would think that all that radiant heat off the coal stove should keep the stone work pretty warm to radiate through the house. Does anyone have a Hitzer fireplace insert ? I was thinking of those but only problem they seem like the convection type "stoker" type that your using the blower to blow heat through out your house instead of just radiant. Any thoughts fellas? I really like the looks of the stone surrounds and my stove sits in the main part of my house want it to really stand out. Thanks John

- Coal Size/Type: 404-nut, 520 rice ,anthracite for both
My Crane 404 sets on concrete, has concrete behind it & on the sides, all the concrete, even the floor in front of it out about 3' gets very warm. I don't think it would be a good idea to (bury) your stove into the stone, but if you have a stone surround @ 2-3' from the stove it will hold heat & helps keep the room with the stove more even temp.

Whatever you do, remember that stoves need to breathe freely, and that CO is not a good thing.
