So Lehigh wrote to me today and said that rice dropped from $170 to $150 a ton (buck $140).I buy a 22ton TT load at a time. Does anybody know if that price dropped too.

I think that's the TL price. Except for their retail operation on Saturdays, I think they only sell in TL (or greater) quantities.

The last ad I saw indicated that their Saturday small-load service ended 3/28/15, and will resume 9/12/15. TL only until then.

I guess I am just grumbling a bit. Last year it was $140 with $21/ton trucking. I just wonder why it's more. I guess the answer is they raised the price just 'cause they can - perhaps - we will see. So what are my options? Gale/Direnzo etc. Top quality only. Gale was definitely higher ash. Direnzo nut was very good indeed as was LCN rice. So they are selling less and so the Wall St financier is trying to make the numbers. Well so am I.

Does any part of your current arsenal burn buck? They held the line on buck.

AK180 and the Pocono and even the Keytoker perhaps but the DVC, I don't think so. I am resisting inventoring three types of coal. It's still very cheap energy, I just see no reason for a price increase.

$150 per ton for excellent rice is still the best deal around. If you want to hold the price from last year....call them and negotiate.

I can see reasons for price increases, cost of doing business is not based on fuel/gas prices alone.Tires are much higher than a few yrs ago, taxes & insurance go up yearly, most everything goes up. Yet we think coal should stay at the same price for 10+ yrs or more ???? If the coal companies can't continue to make money selling coal,we will all be burning oil or propain or NG. The price that folks are willing to pay for firewood at auctions has nearly doubled since last winter. Long live the coal companies, may they have many more VERY PROFITABLE yrs ahead. :)

I think they priced low for a while to make sure they could clear excess inventory resulting from a slowdown in export demand. As Rob points out, the market has figured out that their rice was an excellent value, and they've moved the price toward what it maybe should have been all along. They've put a lot of $ into modernizing Lehigh, and the presence of Lehigh as an aggressive competitor is good for domestic anthracite customers, especially TL buyers. I don't begrudge them a fair price for a good product, and I have a big pile of it in my bin.

OK, I will capitulate. I must admit it is a great product. My AK180 chewed this stuff up and threw out incredible heat all winter.

I think that wen examining coal prices, its best to do this in individual states' forums as delivery costs can be a factor.

Nice you can get it from the mining company but I can only haul so much in my car ...

I'm sending a truck after may 1st to lehigh for 22 tons of Pea coal back to Western NY. Any suggestions for making my first bulk buy an easy one? Ive talked to Lehigh and they will take a credit card and gave me the hours. Any inside knowledge or horror stories to plan for to keep the driver from dumping it on my garden when he gets it here out of frustration?

Make sure you have an area for the load to be dumped that doesn't require off-roading by the TT, and is free of overhead wires, branches, etc. that would interfere with raising the bed.
