cementing keystoker grate

cementing keystoker grate

Last year I had some metal distortion in one of the side walls of the grate and was told it was
the lack of cement there allowing air to come through. I re-cemented the sides of grate this year
and don't see a problem but now a friend says I should have cemented across the back of the grate
as well. Is this so?

Yep, I am afraid so. The only hopper fire I ever had was with this stove that was not sealed at the rear - sorry. The only weakness I know of on this otherwise excellent stove.

Doing a little Searching on here in the Search box at the top right, you can find a lot of information on here.

I think some of us has experienced the leaking grate in the back, i found out on here and did a write up on it when i did my maintenance on the stove. Never had a hopper fire or melted cam bearing. The stove is about 12+ years old. Keeping them cleaned every year and sealed is a good practice.

My big thanks to coalnewbie and WNY for their answers. I'm going to turn the stove off first
thing tomorrow and cement the back of the grate. We're having "mild" weather right
now so it's a good time. Once again, thanks to all of you at NEPACrossroads for your wonderful help.
