OK, I understand your debacle. If I were you, I would go to a major lumberyard, or masonry supply house; NOT LOWES< OR HOME DEPOT. And ask who they would recommend. The larger "independent" retailers rely on pros as their customer support. You are looking for a "BRICK MASON". not a concrete mason. They both live in two different worlds!!! Get someone who is reputable, and qualified. The major lumber yards know who they are . "Ask and you shall receive".

I have a stove installer coming out just after xmas. I still don't know whats going on. I have a large tile thimble going thru the basement wall.
I know from that point up the chimney works cause I see the Steam coming out the top of the chimney when the furnace is on.

well no photos but the installer came out and we checked the chimney. It is lined looks to be 8x8 square lined. There is a crack in
the liner just above where the gas furnace pipe enters the chimney. The rest of the liner looked good and there was daylight at the top showing no sign of any
old creosote or anything at all stuck to the sides. Looked clean and wide open to the top. He wants 900 to 950 dollars
to cut the hole thru the wall and chimney and that includes everything from start to finish. Including finishing up the drywall around the cut.
So, what do you all think ?

Here is a refresher...
jesepi wrote:Ok tell me how in the world do you get a hole cut in the center of your chimney? Im going thru the living room wall.
Does the hole have to be centered exactly? My chimney is on the outside of my house. It does not have
a tile flue. Its an old grey brick chimney. its two feet wide and not sure of the depth. The chimney is about 30 feet tall. Maybe a bit more.
Tnx in advance.

$900-$950 would be a lot for me to spend for that job,i tend to do most things myself tho. Have you gotten a price from anyone else to see if that price is in line??

There are plenty of people who could be hired to knock a hole in a wall to try and be in the center.
Of those above, who will have had good success with this task and then leave with you still smiling is where the field gets narrow.
This $950.00 guy, from what you tell, sounds to be a pro.
What I'm saying is..."Cheaper ain't often bester"
