Hand Fed Coal Stove: Hitzer 30-95

Post by smokeyCityTeacher » Tue. Dec. 16, 2014 4:54 pm

I finally got the Hitzer tweaked for doing long burn at low idle. Been burning about 20 - 25# per day and shutting it down as tight as it will get. In this state I can get away with shaking once per day and getting two full days of burn at this rate until I need to refill.

Stack temps are about 85 F and deck lid temps about 185 F.

Until just recently I had to burn almost #30 per day to keep it lit. Cleaning the clinkers out of my grates and adjusting the front door vent make a big difference.

Love this little stove for the shoulder season!

edit - upgrading my stack pipe to the heavy gauge stuff from woodstove.com seems to have made a difference too although Im not sure why unless it seals better.

At the bottom of the vertical pipe I could only get in 2 of the 3. I need an angle drill to get the last one installed. With stove in operation I cant pop that lower pipe out to get at it.
