Cute little stove. It was very hard to see the suspended fire pot you talked about. Round stove, suspended fire pot, top and bottom doors. Just curious.....what was the ratio between the size of the grate to the size of heat transfer area before you packed insulation around the pot??
Larry , this is the best answer I can give , I don't have any specific numbers of heat transfer , it's definitely way lower in the area around the fire pot than originaly intended ,I'm not sure this design qualify a as suspended type pot!the original 1/8" carbon steel ring had a1/4" gap between the fire pot and the stove body which was filled with a corrugated type of (clay or rockwool) it was badly deteriated so even with a small wood fire a 3" area at the back of stove would glow red! The ring assembly had 5 bolts holding it in position to keep it from sliding down in the barrel the cast iron grate sits on 4 1" angle clips to hold against bottom of ring. After installing the stainless inner rings and packed the void and capped with refractory mortar, the body now warms much more evenly. The pot was 9 1/4" dia , now it's 8 1/2" , I fit the ring so it's touching the front cast iron face of the stove with no insulation for about 10" of the front so the heat should transfer faster out the front.

The heat sheild really works well , I have a wood fire going and the top of the stove is 570* the upper part of the stove body is 450-80 , but the surface of the sheild is only 90* this is currently outside so being cooled by 40* air temps , around the fire pot is 330* on the cast face on the sheild adjacent to that 57* , really good chimney effect between the body and the sheild!
