Yesterday while working I heard a cry for help. I was working in a 3rd floor condo and had stepped out onto the balcony to check the railing. The cry for help was so weak that I almost didn't hear it the first time. But then I heard it again, "please help me." I said where are you and the person said in the condo below. She said please call 911. I said ok, what's the matter? She said I can't breathe. (NO this isn't some sick joke related to the Eric Garner case) So I called 911 and requested an ambulance. Then I went down to the unit and found a very frightened young women, maybe 28 years old. She could hardly talk but told me she was having a severe asthma attack. I asked her if she had an inhaler and she nodded yes but whispered it's not working. She then said I didn't want to die here alone. Yikes! Now I'm really freaking out but stayed calm. I said you are not going to die. I'm going to stay with you, the ambulance is on the way. Just try to stay calm and focus on your breathing. She said she called 911 but her phone died when she pushed call. I asked her if there was anyone she wanted me to call and she asked me to call her boyfriend which I did. Told him what was going on and then I heard the siren approaching. I was holding her hand and she had a death grip on it. I told her I had to go the lobby to let the EMS people in. They came in and got her on oxygen. I quietly left and went back upstairs. She really didn't notice I left as she was really in distress. About 15 minutes later I saw them take her out on a stretcher and leave. I guess I was pretty shaken but didn't realize it. When I got home and told my wife what had happened, I broke down and cried. It was all pretty surreal. I hope she is ok.

If anyone deserves to wear the Santa hat now it is you. You have given a gift that cannot be bought or wrapped. I am sure you feel something extra in your very own stocking also. Best Wishes, Mike

Nice CK
Good work Terry, you stayed calm and did what you had to do.
I had saved 2 or 3 people from drowning in my life, and I just did what had to be done. Yeah, after words, is when you feel the affects of the adrenalin your body just pumped into your system.

Terry,
I logged on to say what a great thing you did. Life can really shake us up sometimes. You saved her life and will be rewarded someway, somehow. Fate is an interesting concept. Who knows, she may give birth to the next Albert Einstein or Derek Jeter.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Wow Coalkirk! What a story.. It's interesting how during a dire emergency of a life and death situation, the person responding goes into a purely focused mode. Nothing else matters other than getting that person help.
Fantastic job! Be proud in knowing you saved her life..

Way to go coalkirk, it's people like you that make this world a better place to live. You could have done like some others would have, and just went back inside. You didn't do that, instead you went right to the person and made sure she got the help she needed. I'm a volunteer fireman and we are trained to do things like that, but a person like you needs to be given the utmost praise and honer for what you did.
Congratulations on helping out stranger!!!!
