What I said was that they came here to escape state-religion. I know it's true of the Quakers in PA and the Catholics in MD, whether there's a different twist to your Pilgrims I don't know. But I do know that, after Henry VIII "converted" the Catholic church in England to his subject, religious freedom in Britain was an issue for many sects.

Of course, that's not to say those groups were always immune from the temptations of power when they got over here and got their hands on some. Hell, just look at the GOP for an example of how fast a group which has been out of power can screw it up?

Wow, it's amazing that the GOP finds all these Democrats (which notably don't include Obama) so credible all of a sudden.

But the fact remains that the Iraq invasion didn't have to take place when it did. As much of a PITA as Saddam was, he had never tested and simply didn't have the capacity to deliver any nukes at that time.

However, since then, both North Korea and Iran (remember? the other two members of the "Axis of Evil") either have developed or are close to having that nuclear capability. But, although Bush likes to say it's important for a President to "mean what he says" and "do what he says he's going to do," we haven't been able to do squat to stop them, have we? Because we're out of gas militarily.

The fact is he's a shallow, incompetent blowhard, and everybody in the world -- and now, thankfully, most people in the U.S. -- know it.

American soldiers have given life & limb around the world so you can have the freedom to speak like this. You should be proud of yourself:

It's truly amazing, and amusing, how offended you wingnuts get when I say something "blasphemous" about your idols, like Ronnie Ray-guns or the Shrub, but you've got no qualms whatsoever about slandering Bill Clinton, or Nobel prize-winner Jimmy Carter, or Nobel prize-winner Al Gore, or others with whom you don't happen to agree. But I absolutely agree with you that freedom of speech is, IMO, our greatest and most precious freedom. And I honor every soldier who's ever worn the uniform of our country. The fact that some of the leaders who've made the policies they've been ordered to carry out have been incompetent, or corrupt, or both, doesn't change my respect for their service one iota. But it doesn't immunize them from criticism when they express their political views, either.

If I am not mistaken, wasn't the United Nations created after WWII for the purpose of making sure there was never another Adolf Hitler in power? If so, then what in the world would you call Saddam? He was part of the 'Axis of Evil" that we were and are still fighting against. We had to start somewhere and Iraq was a damn good place to start. Al-Queda just came in later to TRY and destroy us. I would have in a minute. I do not, and would not pick and choose if I wanted to fight for my country depending on the issues at hand. If my country calls I am there, Period. I did it once and I will do it again without question if I am called upon. It is called patriotism and unfortunately that is something we are losing in America today.

Germany declared war against us after we were attacked by and then declared war against Japan. Have you got it now?

The U.N. passed resolutions and sanctions against Iraq, but NEVER authorized our 2003 invasion, which technically violated International Law. But who cares about those little niceties?

Somebody above posted an inane list intended to show that Democratic Presidents get us into wars (which I presume the point is we shouldn't have gotten into), including WWII.

I'm impressed by your patriotic declaration. Are you of military age? If not, are any of your relatives? If so, are they in the volunteer military? Do you know why none of Mitt Romney's 5 military-aged sons are? Or either of the President's daughters? And, since we don't have enough uniformed military to cash the rhetorical checks Bush and Cheney have been verbally writing for years, why hasn't the draft been reinstated?

The heck with it, Stockingful convinced me, I am renouncing my affiliation with the republican party.
I am now going to lobby for the following actions to coincide with my new more liberal beliefs.

*All illegal immigrants can stay in the US
*All illegals have a right to social security, workers comp and health care.
*Everyone inside the US borders must turn in all firearms immediately.
*All troop overseas returned home immediately
*Assemble for peace talks with Al-Queda, Iran and all other terrorist organizations.
*All citizens that are middle class and higher pay triple what they are paying now for health care. ( AKA universal health care)
* Outlaw all vehicles that do not get 100 MPG and close down all oil drilling inside the US.
* Tax the American people till they bleed out of their ear...
* Tax them some more just for good measure !

I'm not aware that anything we did in Bosnia violated international law. But, if it did, I don't excuse it any more than I excuse the illegal acts of the current President or any other.

Tell ya what: you can pay for healthcare, education (which you guys badly need!), nearly everything you want, and lower your taxes to boot, with the almost $3 Trillion that the Iraq war will have cost.
