I installed the controller this fall, and we hadn't had much winter until recently when
mother nature decided it was time.
temps in the 40's and 50's over the weekend, down to the teens by monday/tuesday
and going to zero tonight,
every time I walk by the coal trol, it says 69
69

69

69...

i am truly amazed at how well this controller works with the everchanging weather.

What does the Coal -Trol do exactly? I'm curious as I've never seen one or understand what they are all about.

in my world it has eliminated any guess work of where to set the channing
feed rate based on a weather forecast, it works with the coal stove as does
the thermostat on the furnace, but without such temp swings.
even steven...............

My orginal LL Hyfire only had the Rheostat controls, speed up or slow down the feed rate and/or blowers. Going to basement to adjust wasn't gonna happen. LOL. I ordered the CoalTrol 8 years ago to accurately control my stove.

The CoalTrol takes all the guesswork out of controlling your Stoker Stove. it has a lot of built in features to control the temperature, blowers, feed rate, etc.. all based on the setpoints and room temp (Along with a lot of algorithms these guys program into it to automatically adjust stuff).

Everything is controlled by the thermostat mounted upstairs in the living area. You can manually run the blowers, change feed rates, etc... once you get it Dialed-in, a little tweaking of the Min. feed (to maintain idle fire) and MAX feed, so you're not pushing hot coals off the grates. It maintains a constant temperature very well.!! it automatically adjusts feed rates based on the temperature setpoints and room temps and will adjust accordingly.

i did make an adjustment this past weekend, the outside temps were around or below
0 and the wind was howling, and we are very exposed up on top of a hill.
the house was down to 66, OMG!
i went down and looked at the fire, and added 4 points to my max feed rate,
as I had a good 2 inches of ash on the carpet. after that things seem to be
a little better during the extreme cold and wind.
that is not a common occurrence to have such high wind with temps so low,
so i'm happy that I had the room to open up that feed rate a tad.

Mine was running at FR (feed rate) = 99 for almost 2 days trying to keep up with the subzero temps, we have -22 Monday morning, the stove was cranking at 500 degrees. I tweaked mine on the max a couple points, I almost have no ash at the end of the grate, but it's not pushing hot coals off.

Glad to hear it guys. :)

Everyone make sure to clean the grates and flue pipes (and venter if you have one). Been getting a number of customers with complaints thinking the Coal-trol is going bad on them and it has turned out to be a cleaning was needed to get the air flowing into and out of the fire again.

I have a 983 Hitzer. I don't think I can use it either, but not sure. It would be the berries if I could. Can anyone set me straight on this. My stove was bought in 1993. I love it. Has kept me warm all these years.

The Coal-trol works on just about any automatic stoker feed stove. It does not work on hand fired stoves. In Hitzer's line the 608 and 710 (both relatively new, being introduced in the last 5 years) are compatible and both models ship from the factory with Coal-trol installed.
