Hey All!!
Over the last few days it has dropped into the single digits and has maintained temperatures below 15 for about a week. I typically keep the house fairly warm at 74 downstairs and 71 upstairs when outside temps are in the upper 20's and low 30's. Over the last few days i'm struggling to keep it at 72 downstairs and 66 upstairs by using only the coal furnace (harman sf-3500).
So, how are you all doing in the low temperatures?

4 degrees here presently, and I'm sitting in a room that is 71 degrees. Swings here go from 68 to 72. Boiler just an for 26 straight minutes. Now it is idling. Plenty in reserve.HarMark3500 wrote:Hey All!!

We like indoor temps similar to yours. Tonight is predicted 13 below zero and lots of wind. When it gets that cold, I know the stove won't keep up, so I set it to about 400 degrees, set the wall thermostat to 72, and let oil take up the slack. So far this will be only the second night this winter to do that.HarMark3500 wrote:So, how are you all doing in the low temperatures?

After 21 minutes of idle time our boiler just fired again. That's 26 on and 21 off. Still 4 degrees outside here. Heading for -2 tonight.

I know most of you are running hand fired, my stoker is running close to the 500 degree mark and running almost max feed rate.
But keeping warm, we keep this big old house about 65.
I think it's Zero right now outside.
