At my job, we're too cheap to invest in a real coal stove or boiler. In the interest of doing things wrong, we beat the heck out of a pair of Clayton combination furnaces. Attached is the result of feeding compressed air through the ash door of one. Please note - I did not do this but I couldn't resist taking a picture.

The load door was hot enough to set paper on fire. It's no wonder they blew a hole in the firebox wall in the furnace from last year.

You guys don't even want to see the other furnace...cracked load door, cracked ash door, warped grates, cracked front firebox. It's the result of trying to heat approximately 2400sq ft (with 20 foot ceilings) per furnace. I think they managed to get one side of the shop into the mid 40s with the furnace pictured above.

WOW.

I have to admit though, the load door on mine has a small crack in it. And mine was fired no where near as hot as that one. Although mine was glowing at least one time.

Some nitrous oxide might be enough without blowing the thing up right away.

Now that's a whole new level of.... I don't even know what to call it!!

I wouldn't even attempt that with my busted up should-be-in-the-scrap-pile stove! Out of respect I just couldn't bring myself to do it. That my friend, that's intense.

I'm really surprised that there are not a couple of old VW tires on top of the fire to also help accelerate the draft. :D
