only if the ends of the spring handle don't stick out past the O.D. of the mag tube wall. otherwise the nubs will hit the under side of the "oven" won't they ?Sunny Boy wrote:No need to weld on handles.
Just bend a rod into a "U" shape with 90 degree bent short ends that spring outward into the vent holes. Kinda like a bail handle on a bucket. Push it down into the mag until the ends snap into the vent holes and it can be a one-piece, self centering handle.
Then just pinch the ends of the U together to remove it from the mag.

Steve,
Hence my use of the word, "short".
And I'm confident that Scott understands enough to know to only make the ends as long as the thickness of the mag walls so that it won't get hung up. That Scott is a pretty sharp guy !

Given the mags weight it will be to cumbersome to install/remove easily on a running stove. So, I'm going to go with two upper exterior welded handles.
Thanks for the compliment Paul

Hey Scott, maybe I'm looking at something wrong, but in your photos on the previous page, you show the bottom of the mag, when installed, appears to be located "way down" inside your fire-pot. I was assuming, the depth of your mag, (bottom) would be located above the top of a full pot of coal. Your 2nd picture down, on page 9 is the one I'm referring to.
As for the height of your barrel, and handles and all, when the mag is installed, you won't be needing to pull it out very often, will you? Maybe you could stand on your wifes shoulders, stick your hand down the mag from the top, and simply pull it up, rather than welding up handles.
