Using the Quote Botton, Special Tip

Using the Quote Botton, Special Tip

I see a lot of posts with lot of screwed up quotes so here goes.

The easiest method instead of clicking the quote button on a individual post click the post reply button instead. In the preview pane highlight just the text you want to quote. Hit the quote button on that particular post. Just the text you have highlighted will magically appear in the posting box. You can repeat this process for different text with any other posts. Note that quoted text will appear wherever your cursor is in the posting panel.

---------------------------------------------------
Doing it manually:

Step one: Hit the quote button. :P
Step Two A: If you're adressing a specific part of post DELETE the irrelevant parts. Don't quote the entire post if you don't have to especially if it was just made right before you. Be sure to not take the quoted text out of context with your edits. DO NOT place your own text in quoted text. A) It's like putting words in someones mouth and b) it becomes impossible to read.

-or-

Step Two B: If you want to address multiple parts of post. Highlight the quote tag at the end, then paste it into the first part of the post you want to adress. For example this is how it looks when you first quote a post:

Code: Select all
[quote]This is the first paragraph.

This is the second poaragraph.[/quote]

We cut and paste the ending quote tag so its just quoting the first paragraph:

Code: Select all
[quote]This is the first paragraph.[/quote]

This is the second poaragraph.

Highlight the second paragraph then hit the BBcode quote button in the posting panel which will ad the quote tags around the second paragraph. Add your replies after each quote.:

Code: Select all
[quote]This is the first paragraph.[/quote]

I want to say this about your first paragraph

[quote]This is the second paragraph.[/quote]

I want to say this about your second paragraph

The above will look like this:

This is the first paragraph.

I want to say this about your first paragraph

This is the second paragraph.

I want to say this about your second paragraph

--------------------------------------

DO NOT place your own text in quoted text. A) It's like putting words in someones mouth and b) it becomes impossible to read.

-------------------------------------

Quick tip, you can quote multiple people in the same post quite easily. First make sure the cursor in the posting panel is in the correct position where you want the quote to appear. Scroll down to the topic review ans simply hit the quote button the post you want to quote. Never saw that there did you? :)

I'm going to start enforcing this, some of the posts are becoming unreadable. Speicfiacally:

DO NOT place your own text in quoted text. A) It's like putting words in someones mouth and b) it becomes impossible to read.

Just to add it becomes al the more impossible to know who said what. I'll also add id you want to quote someone you don't have to quote the whole damn post they made especially if it was made just before yours.

Any hints on the easiest way to find the post you want to quote from after you hit the "Post Reply" button?
(Took me a few minutes of careful scrolling to find spc's post)

No other tips other than the "expand view" will make it full page instead of having to scroll, the posts a listed in ascending order in the review panel so last post will be on top.
