I want to be able to switch from my coal to oil boiler easy. I'm thinking a switch in this line of my zone controller will work.

1) Do you think this will work?
2) What should I use as a switch?

Taco SR504-EXP

The end switch is a dry contact and will not supply any voltage for the task.

Are both boilers on the same single circuit from the electric breaker panel?

Nope the coal is on it's own 20A line.

I have two Thermostats and two zone pumps. One is on the baseboard and the other in in the radiant floor in the kitchen/dinning room, and both bathrooms.

With the Taco SR504-EXP you can use the end switch and switch the 24 volts.

Here is the basic wiring diagram:
DPDT-toggle-switch-diagram.png

3. and 4. = Taco SR504-EXP end switch

1. and 2. = coal boiler, T.T.

5. and 6. = oil boiler, T.T.

Note: As per your own personal preferences you may interchange the coal and oil numbered wire pairs for the reverse layout.

Isn't that what I was saying originally? What I didn't know was what switch to get it make that work. I would think I need like a A or B switch.

Yes. Just search ebay for double pole double throw switch...should bring up plenty of toggle switches with 3 positions and 6 terminals.

Hello Shawn,

I have a power switch for each boiler to run them together
with oil as the back up only or independently with ONE thermostat..

I can shut the Switzer off and just use the oil boiler if desired.

Yeah I have power switches on both. So maybe that's the best solution.

Shawn,

The T.T. connections I refer to are in the aquastats at each of the boilers.
But this switch over method requires human intervention...someone needs to actually be there to throw the switch when it is time to do so.

However the t-stats can doe it just fine without human intervention. :)
