Hot Air Coal Stoker Stove: Keystoker Koker Lite
Coal Size/Type: Rice

Hi everyone,
I'm still pretty new to this coal thing so I'm looking for some help...I have a keystoker koker lite, put in this year. As of today, the gear motor is making a obnoxiously loud noise. I'm able to hear it throughout my entire house. I'm wondering if this is a common problem or is there something to oil or grease, or for that matter any suggestions on what it might be or a possible fix. I appreciate everyone's help. Thanks! Hope I could get some sleep tonight with this thing

As Member sting would say "Depends".
Are you using dry rice coal?
DO you have a manual for this coal stoker???
Have you lubricated the combustion fan motor or the gearbox?
HAVE you ever checked the oil level in the gearbox???????

You need to shut it off and check the oil level and oil the fan motor i
it has not been oiled by you since its installation.

Well I do have a manual for it. It doesn't mention maintenance on the gear motor AT ALL, in fact it barely mentions the gear motor. And no I never have, not particularly sure how I would even go about that. Thanks for the quick reply. I appreciate the help

Your Koker uses the same drive as my Keystoker 90. There are nylon guides on each side of the push block to guide it true. I oil the motor shaft annually. There can be a build up fines around the push block over time. Now with the cam type feed there are times the cam does not engage with the push block during its rotational cycle. Carefully watch the feed motor and see if the noise stops for a small amount of time as it cycles. If it does your push block is your source of noise.

Go to the Keystoker home page and look for the
Keystoker 90 coal stove manual. roll down to
page 7 of the manual to find what you need.

Do you have a squirt oil can and a crescent wrench or
box end wrenches to remove the plugs???

Thank you very much. The noise stops very briefly for maybe a second or two on the cam rotation. I should be able to get the plugs out and get things tightened down. Nothing like having this thing noisy as could be at midnight.

The manual is poor, it may just have oil holes for a
squirt oil can for what they provide as a description.

I would love to help them with the manuals.

It would be nice if they had pictures/manuals for the gear boxes and fan motors in the manuals etc.

Would you be able to tell me how to get at the nylon cams. I can see them but I don't know how to get at them to make sure they are tight.

If the noise stops briefly as 2001 Sierra said the problem
is coal dust in the rails by your description of the noise and
its frequency.

DO you mean the nylon rails that the pusher block slides up and down on???

You will have to empty the hopper and vacuum out the coal dust to
free up the pusher plate if the coal dust is binding up the pusher plate.

Can you let the fire go out and let it cool down and clean it tomorrow?

I would shut down, and clean the push block area first. Do a dry run with no coal, plug the feed motor in directly and check for noise. If noise persist check nylon guides.
