I've been lurking on this forum since November and have a ton of knowledge because of it. I am posting today because I have a question. I purchased a Leisure Line Pioneer top vent with a power vent last November. Around two weeks ago the power vent started to develop a whine that is constant and quite loud when outside. I have oiled it twice and it has been running non stop for two months. Is this whine normal? Would taking the fan out and cleaning it fix the problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

Here is a link: Noisy Damper/Draft Pipe and Draft Issue on Pioneer

If you type 'noisy power vent' in to the search box above you will get a days worth of material to look thru. It seems it's a common occurrence.

Thanks for the quick response. I read your link and it doesn't describe what my power vent is doing. He describes more of a rattle, my vent isn't rattling, just a loud whine. I tried the search option before I posted, but didn't have any luck with finding someone who had this particular problem.

Probably needs a good cleaning, the impellers do get covered in Fly Ash.

I just pulled the motor and fan. Cleaned everything per the power vent instructions and the whine is gone. I was surprised how much fly ash was on everything. At least I know now what to do. Thanks for the help.
