- Hand Fed Coal Stove: Tremont
- Coal Size/Type: nut
I need to get nut coal. I have a Tremont hand fired coal stove, live in Harrisburg area. I have used various dealers over the years. Coal comes from Williamstown, Shamokin, Hegins, Tamaqua, Mahonoy City, Hazleton, depending on dealer. I might have trouble keeping the white ash coal going in warmer, no wind days, as I have trees around. I have been getting a mix. I like the efficiency and low ash of white ash. Some coal I've gotten has stones, shale, crumbs in it. Any suggestions of where to get it? I've heard coal north of Harrisburg isn't as good as more northeast, also quality can vary from time to time wherever it comes from. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum,Zena. Try calling Countryside Coal, they handle Blashack, but I think they only handle bulk.
Has anybody had any problem with coal this season from jeddo in hazleton,i picked up three ton in oct of 2014 and in order to get any heat out of it I have to have the three air controls wide open on my Harman fs250,never had to do that with the coal I got at casey kassa in plains, there coal I could only open controls a couple turns.

I've been burning Jeddo for a few years, and it needs more air for combustion. In this weather, it can really throw the heat and burns to a powder. Most coal from Hazletons mammoth vein is harder in structure and needs more air, but burns longer. I can easily get over 24 hours before shaking in weather like this, but it is easier and quicker to take care of at every 12 hrs.

Zena, you could also ck with Jono Ace Hardware, they sell bagged & bulk picked up or delivered.
Please note Jeddo is some of the hardest long burning coal in the coal regions .They built a breaker New abu about 12 years ago .Also they have government contrasts an coal is tested .Past years Q I T from Canada was buying gondola loads an Sending there own Inspectors to check the coal .There are 3 other coal breakers in Hazleton an the Qualiyt will vary .Ask your supplier of the coal is it Jeddo or another Hazleton breaker . jack

I'm in lower Dauphin County. When I am on the way there during the day (sometimes happens with work) I like to get coal from RR Coal breaker (formerly Meadowbrook) in Lykens, upper Dauphin County. The last couple of years it has burned very well down to powdery ash. It comes with just a few wood pieces. Once last year and once this year they were out of nut coal and I wound up burning stove size in our hand fired Harman. Works well in these cold snaps.
Ok an update on my coal from jeddo,i know some of you won't believe this but I have burned up everything I got at jeddo plus all my fuel oil,ran down to casey and kassa got three tons of coal, heater driving us outa the house and drafts barely open,so which coal would u buy!
