As my normal work days frequently leave me out of the house for 15 hours or more, I was thinking the other day about ways to keep some more heat in the Chubby. Has anyone thought of placing fire bricks above the fire pot, using maybe a steel ring to hold them in place, just as a way to retain heat for those days when the Chubby has been asked to burn a little longer than ideal?

It sounds like you are attempting to store heat? 20 pounds worth of bricks won't store much heat. Could be counterproductive if the bricks blocked radiant heat between the coal and firebox wall. Just an opinion. :)

With a little practice you should be able to get an easy 15 hours prior to shaking down. When you shake down and refresh the firepot with coal don't be shy about mounding the coal on top. I would avoid the firebrick idea.

I agree, and ill add, I have done this mounding, and I bring it to a point in the middle. I have achieved a 19 hour burn once this way. Was a 2 trip clean out after though.
