Well you said yourself in the previous post that we won the cold war. Do you remember how we won the cold war? It wasn't because of "progressives." It was Ronald Reagan who made the Soviets believe that we meant what we said and said what we meant. That and a massive military buildup to back it up. He scared the living crap out of them and they couldn't keep up in the military spending. Also remember the Iranian hostage crisis on Carters watch? When did the Iranians let let them go? The day Reagan took office. Because he said he was going to go and get them and they believed him. They knew Carter was full of it. Well he did send a few helicopters once but the ones that didn't break down on the way due to the sad state of our military, crashed into each other.

Ray-gun? Wasn't he the "conservative" who busted the budget, creating gargantuan deficits with his "trickle-down" (or, as Bush 41 called it, "voodoo") economics, and the guy who actually went and negotiated with Mike Gorbachev when he was the original Darth Vader of the evil empire?

Aren't those things that "conservatives" decry today?

Ronnie Ray-guns had Alzheimer's a long time before it was officially diagnosed. But he obviously fooled a lot of people with his "feel good" personality and message of "hope and optimism." Sound familiar? It should, because it's the rap currently being laid on one Barack Obama. Only Obama actually has a brain, as opposed to a string of B-film credits.

There is no way that Reagan deserves all the credit for winning the Cold War. The strain of 45 years of trying to compete with the US economy (militarily) was what finaly did them in. In some measure, credit must be shared with all the U.S. administrations since Harry Truman in 1945. (Personaly, I think Eisenhower is only begining to get the credit he deserves for beating the Russian Bear but there were significant contributions by Democratic Presidents too, starting with Truman in Korea)

I don't think the full impact of what Reagan accomplished is even known yet and probably won't be for decades when it comes out in the open. You can bet that lot of the research and projects started during his presidency are only coming to fruition now.

I'm not going to try to correct the revisionist progressive spin on what finally brought down the Soviet Union. But you may recall we just shot down a sattelite traveling in space at some amazing speed. That was a program started by Reagan, widely ridiculed by liberals.
