blue ladies are relevant to over fire air introduced burning off gases being emitted from coal. Hotter Temps isn't the reason for blue ladies. Also, I burn temps from 250-500 degrees and rarely get clunkers. I think coal quality has a lot to do with that. I can run my stove at 250 and still have some blue ladies. I always let some over fire air in throughout the entire process as I'd rather burn up the gases then send them up the chimney. Like the wood stoves, I was a wood burner for a long time and the lopi liberty stove had secondary air tubes and the ball of flames (gasification) would hover above the logs and burn, putting off more heat. If your stove doesn't let in over the fire air then the gases cannot ignite. If you have some over the fire air then the gases will burn off and you'll have blue ladies.

Someone needs to study the 50-93 brochure,it explains how the stove works. It was properly designed to do its job without all the manual adjusting for up & down air.

I for one don't need to read a brochure. It only has under air, no over air which is what was in question.

With the bi-metal thermostat opening at shake down time the coal gets enough air through the coal bed to ignite the gasses.windyhill4.2 wrote:Someone needs to study the 50-93 brochure,it explains how the stove works. I thought I had seen a diagram of the 50-93 with the incoming air thru the under grate area also feeding some to the over the fire area, must have been a different brand. The 50-93 is rated for burning bit too,it would have to have some kind of over fire air supply for this or no ??
