That is a lot of money to gain a little bit of efficiency, but you would have a very unique stove setup. toothy You have a very nice stove there Paulie.

Thanks Randy,

I think this is my favorite stove so far ......... You are right . I think at my age I would never see the break even point for the difference in efficiency.

If I can find the radiator for what I consider a fair price ...... Between $100 and $200 depending on its condition, I agree it would be rather unique..

The trim wont be back from the plating shop for 10 to 12 weeks, giving me plenty of time to finish my Man Cave where it will reside. I will start another post on the Man Cave progress where I am building a concrete block wall around my stoker and converting my coal bin into a fake fireplace.

Meanwhile, I'm researching some high temperature powder coatings, and may attempt a brass colored underlay on the raised portions of the castings followed by either a flat or metallic black in the recesses. . I will post a picture of a restored stove I ran across with a similar appearance and see what you think.

Very nice stove Paulie. One of my favorite model, I really like the chic look of these stoves.

I have found that this was a very similar stove. I need to buff out the painted over parts. I hasnever been fired and has a magazine. I need to pay more attention to this one.

I would agree, this one is a beautiful stove. I love those square stoves for some reason...oh hell, I love them all.

Thanks nortcan ! The warm glow from the three sides with the lights turned down, helps take my mind off just how cold it is outside.

I would have responded to this earlier but unfortunately I didn't get out of the crib until 11 am.

Why,You might ask? Well ........Once I saw your Invader 2 picture, a little before midnight, my heart got racing. I did some research, looked back at some of your posts, laughing hysterical and intrigued at the same time. Before I knew it it was 4:15 am .

Did you ever take your granddaughter's medals off and fire it up?

It was a little chilly this weekend to do anything outside so I decided to clean up some doors and mica retainers.

Since almost the entire stove is cast, I'm going with all stove polish rather than paint.

Spent 2 days last week at the plating shop buffing the nickel , and will decide in the next few days what direction to go. There are a few parts he may attempt to blend in with brush plating.

Meanwhile, I'll strip down the rest of the stove and decide the best way to line the fingered firepot.
Im thinking hammering in the clay refractory ?

If you want to experiment, you can make a 'rosemont style' heat exchanger out of chimney flue pipe. I've seen some early heat exchangers that were all sheet metal. Obviously it won't last all that long, but If you make a few passes between a top and bottom manifold of 'TEEs' .
Making a direct to exchanger exhaust gasses 'valve' or flow control will require the most ingenuity, I think a MPD with the holes covered would be an easy if not perfectly sealing valve.

Sketch it out, price the pieces, and see what it will cost. Just make sure you screw it together and make a sturdy base to hold it in position.

Greg L..

BTW: that is a very nice stove, here is a baseheater square stove I have. it looks much like your stove, but has the rear 'doghouse' with the up and down exhaust passageways, and the divided base passageway under the ashpan box.
Sorry for the poor photo, I didn't take many photos before I disassembled the stove to repair some cracks and reseal all the thin, cast panels and pieces.

Thanks Greg....
If I cant find a Rosemont Radiator or at least the top and bottom castings for a reasonable price I may try that approach just to track the difference in efficiency.

Your picture is fine, and thank you for sharing it.In fact your Keystone could pass as a sister stove to the Rosemont. At first glance it looked like a lot like a Radiant Gem. What company made your Keystone?

I just got a 1898 reprint of the Floyd, Wells & Company stove catalog. Its 180 pages of Dreams !

Now I understand the back plate with the check damper on my stove. The Fame Rosemont is 95% baseburner in design. Mine is a model 20 "Rattle" direct draft. The model 40 "Razor" is identical with the exception being the doghouse and double plate under the ash pan. For $2.50 more in 1898 mine would have been a baseburner :D

This catalogue is a must have for anyone with a Floyd Wells & Co stove.

Randy

This catalog covered all of the cook stoves, parlor stoves , bit burners, and accessories they made. There is a stove picture on every other page, pricing, and detailed explanations of their functions and changes.

The exact pages you sent me on the Rosemont Radiator are there also.

The information you supplied is what got me started searching so Thanks again!

I just ordered another book on stoves built in the albany ny area. I will search the same sources for information on your Andes.

The other information I looking for is on the Pittston Stove Company that was located in my home town. I have a Happy Thought stove made by them but my dream is to find a " Grand Happy Thought" I only ran across one restored at Bucks but they have it priced at $18,000.

No, I don't have that book, is it a complete book or just those two pages?
